X5 xDrive45e Release Date?

Has anyone heard from their dealer when the hybrid will be available for ordering in the US, is it 2021?

Hi,
Will it be that long before it comes available in the US?
I'm from Belgium and ordered my X5 45e in February already.
It is due to be delivered in November 19.

How come the US market has to wait for so long for it to become available?

Grtz!

X5 45e will start production in August for European delivery in October / November 2019.

North america will have to wait until spring/summer 2020.

I was one of the first to order one (beginning February 2019) and got word that mine will be delivered around week 46/47. (November 11 )

Is there any update on US launch of the X5 45e?

I heard BMW is adjusting its allocation to launch the vehicle in US earlier than 2020 spring/summer.

I believe I read last week it was Summer of 2020 as a 2021MY.

That's a long wait! I hope they release it sooner.

According to a CA on another forum: "Hopefully I can clear up any confusion/uncertainty pertaining to the imminent launch of the all-new PHEV X5 which will begin production ("SOP") this coming April as a model year '21 (MY 2021).

This also implies that vehicle ordering guides and pricing will drop around same time as the initial production allocations in early March."

Hopefully he is correct.

Thank you! I heard the same from my dealer as well. He said he will get in touch with me in March when their allocations open up.

It sucks you still can not get 3rd row with the "e". If the X7 45e isnt also released next year I am likely getting a non BMW SUV. XC90, Defender, or even maybe a Telluride. If they didnt kill the US diesels I would have no problem. Not going from my lifetime 30 mpg average in our 2017 X5 35d to low 20s or sub 20s mpg. I cant believe how bad their decisions are. If the US X7 45e is 6-12 months after Europe or Asia like the X5 then thats BS.

Alternative is to just drive down to SC and steal an X7 M50d after it rolls outta the factory.

Well the Volvo XC90 PHEV is eliminated as a choice. I priced one out at $84k, went to a dealer and asked for a est on a lease. With the $7500 tax credit, $2500 down and $8-10k in incentives, it was about $1200 a month for 3yrs and 15k miles!!! My near $80k F15 X5 is $810 after tax for 3yr 12k. I dont even know if the $1200 included sales tax.... Told the guy I can lease an X7 for less and have cash left over for gas... He said no one is buying Volvo PHEVs (outside of CA of course lol), dealers sometimes don't even have one on the lot, and orders could be 3-6 months for it to come in.

That doesn't make much sense since 2020 MY X5's are scheduled to stop production in July 2020 and the new model year production starts in August 2020. I suppose it's possible but it would be very unusual for BMW to start a production run of the X5 'e' for the US market a month before the new model year is scheduled to start. Perhaps he's thinking the US/NA version of the X5 45e will start production in August as a 2021?

Agreed. It makes sense if X5 45e starts production in August 2020 for the 2021 model year. That timeline is consistent with their production schedule.

I see a strategy here where BMW is launching the 45e in a smaller market with less press focus while it irons out supply chain and manufacturing kinks. Then they will launch in the US as a 2021 model once everything is industrialized...

I know that sounds ignorant but BMW sells 50% more X5s in the U.S. than it does across all of Europe. If they are selling the 45e in limited release in Europe it is a way to do what I said. But then again I am just making up a guess as to their strategy. I would have loved to buy a 45e this year.

Probably right about the X5, it is very expensive in the UK and I am switching from Range Rover because of wanting a Hybrid and JLR are not there yet.

Overall the EU is a larger population than the USA by a fair margin and the car buying is obviously very different here.

Europe is the 2nd largest market foe PHEV and EV after China.

It does not only sounds ignorant. It's even false.

Europe caught up with the big SUV craziness.
In 2019 the difference was less than 10.000 units. +-20% more X5 sold in USA.

Every year since the introduction of the X6 and X3 they sold more units in Europe than in USA. Both models even sold more than twice as much (> 100%) in Europe in certain years.

When looking at total sales, including all models, 3 times more BMW's sold in Europe than in USA every year.
Europe is still their biggest market.
China second but they are closing in fast. In 8 years, BMW sales went up by 400% in China. (with a limited range of models!) .
USA is in 3rd place.

I lived in Europe for four years recently so I am not unfamiliar with the market. I made my statement based on data reported online (see http://carsalesbase.com/us-car-sales-data/bmw/bmw-x5/ and http://carsalesbase.com/european-car...ta/bmw/bmw-x5/) which shows US sales of the X5 are 50% higher than Europe.

I don't think their total sales are relevant when we are talking about why they decided to do a limited release of an X5 model.

As I said above, Europe is a bigger market for PHEV and EV than the USA so that is probably why it was released here first.

Your data show for 2019 54.000 in the US and 44.000 in Europe. Approximately 20% difference 🤓
