How reliable is the BMW X3?

I told my colleagues that I'm thinking of getting an X3. All of them immediately told me not to citing examples of 3 people we know that had lots of problem with their Bimmers in general and the number of times they had to bring them in for service. I'm really spooked so I'm actually considering the Mercedes ML350. What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have had no problems with my X3, which is for sale!

I definitely would not go with any Mercedes. From first hand experience they are not worth the headaches.

Good luck and let me know if you are interested. My X3 is listed in the forums.

Had a 2004 X3 that never went into the shop except for oil changes. Traded the 2004 on a 2007 X3 that has never been in the shop except for an oil change and a free reprogram of the computer for the transmission. Put 30,000 miles on the 2004 and 16,500 on the 2007 so 46,500 combined miles with 0 problems. I have owned 13 BMW's and honestly the X3 has been the most reliable along with the 2004 M3 I had. Have a 335 E93 for 15 months and it actually has not even been in for an oil change (only 7,600 miles) and 0 problems. Never had a major problem with a BMW, my 2001 X5 had some small issues and probably was my worst BMW. Hope this helps.

I sell BMW and the X3 is one of the cars that comes in the least for service issues. I really have never had a customer complaign to me about the car not working right. That has happened on other cars as well. I think the Z4 and X3 have the least amount of problems at least for what I have seen in the 4 years of selling BMW's
