M340i vs M240i

Has anyone cross shopped M240i vs M340i and what did you think? I'm looking at one or the other for wife's daily. If leasing, the two are <$50/mo difference due to 2er leasing so poorly. We owned a 235i and loved it so an LCI 240i sounds great but if it leases nearly the same as an M340i, maybe I go for the bigger newer car.

The 2er driving experience is just so good and I think they look great but of course the G20 is the new hot sauce and the higher output B58 is desireable. I'm split on the looks but overall like the G20. For our needs it's just the two of us with no kids and we have an SQ5 for utility duties. I plan to test drive both once I can find the time and would lease or maybe buy a used 240i if the right car became available.

I think the residuals on the 2 series are abysmal compared to the 3 series, so for the same (maybe even less) payment, a bigger vehicle (may be a pro or a con to you) with a better engine and newer tech, I would say the G20. You should test drive both and decide for yourself.

My G30 is bigger, has better tech, and better residuals than the 240 and yet I’d still rather have the 2 series. The 2 is simply more satisfying to drive than the larger cars. I can’t compare to G20 as I haven’t driven it yet, but better tech and specs don’t mean much.

As you said, only way to know which will make you happy is to test drive them and see how they feel. If one makes you smile and the other doesn’t the answer is easy

Everyone should drive what they enjoy. Though, not sure you should compare the car you haven't driven yet

That's exactly why I haven't compared a car I haven't driven yet

I had an m235i - I liked the car a lot but I'll admit , I don't think it's very good looking .
I think the new 3 series looks much better than the 2 - especially the interior .

I can't contribute lease wise. But if purchased and you can live with 2 doors, then M2C for the same money as M340i is no brainer. I'm not sure how M2 leases

I would rather have the larger 3 that's new, instead of the smaller 2 thats not newly refreshed interior.

What numbers are being seen for M340i's leases currently? thanks

You'd need to post your BMW configurator build links for someone to help you make that comparison.

The M340i is a lot more car. You get more power, active LSD (the M240i has an open diff which is just embarrassing IMO), a much better interior, completely updated suspension geometry and dampers, and newer tech. The M240i is lighter and has a shorter wheelbase, which is nice, but I feel like the fact that it has an open diff kinda negates that advantage as far as driving goes.

I'm strongly leaning M340i if I can tolerate the size. I'm going to eyeball a Dravit grey today after work. Also I'm only considering xDrive so M2C is out but I do like that little guy.

LSD is a port installed option on M240

You really need to drive them both to know. I like the interior on the g20 too but if one drove significantly better than the other, I’d pick that regardless of how dated the styling was

I only had a chance to drive M2 not M240i but assuming no crucial differences, I cannot believe driving it on a daily basis, especially when you live in the area with lots of rainy / snowy days (like we have here). Apart from being fun to drive and bringing a lot of smile to your face, the car itself was ravenous But again, it depends on whether you would like to use it as a daily drive and weather conditions are to be considered as well. Plus, the size and capacity difference would be huge compared to 3er. I can't imagine an adult traveling on a back seat of M240i for a long. Having that said, considering that M340i is itself a newer concept with all the latest features I would go with it.

Should be basically same car in different bodies and minor interior differences. I went M340i in 2019 and love it but if I were in the market today I'd for sure go new M240i. I just prefer a coupe and slightly prefer look of the 2er.
