The knocking when the car is off just sounds like standard cooling off noise. I've never known a modern vehicle to not make some of this noise. As multiple parts that are hot (usually exhaust related) start to cool off, they contract at different rates. This contraction causes different peices to pop or creak.
I could run through a list of at least 30 cars that I have owned or worked on that do the same exact thing. |

yup, the car's cooling off. I just noticed this myself a couple of days ago in the garage. Almost like an orchestra there was so much of it. Either way, it's pretty normal.

my car used to tick at when the engine was running, though it wasn't only at idle. In my case, I took it to the dealer, who ended up replacing my valve lifters. However, the noise you hear could just be the direct injection. All direct injection engines 'tick' a little. However, if it bugs you, then don't hesitate to take the car into the dealership and have them make sure everything's OK.

My car has a small knocking when it is warm and idles, never has any sound when its cold, and if i lift the revs to around 800-1000rpm it stops knocking. Only has a little knocking when warm and idling, its normal i think.

If it's engine knocking, then do you use minimum 91 octane? If so, try 93 octane and see if that help's |

lol, it just occurred to me how subjective the whole subject of definition is to a diagnosis. What's a tick to one person, may just as well be a ping to another.
I've said it a bunch of times already, but if your car is making noises that you either A: never heard before, or B: don't think sound right, then Take It To The Dealer. That's what the warranty is there for. Unless of course, your car is stolen... |
