B58 E85 JB4+MHD Dyno

With the official release of MHD for the B58 today seemed a good time to share some dyno results to highlight one of the problem areas with the platform.

Test car is Jeff @ BMS 540i with a BMS intake, JB4, and MHD back end flash map. The flash map has been adjusted to accept from 20-50% E85, with fuel trims, lambda target, and timing advance, optimized to the expected power levels.

They are running on an E40 mix here and at only 19psi fuel pressure is already tanking, and that is with AFR as lean as they feel safe running it!

While flash tuning has removed the software fuel cap we've still got some hardware fuel limitations to deal with. Option 1 is the tried and true meth kit, and option 2 is a new CPI (chargepipe) injection setup we're working on. Expect to see more on that soon we're testing it on our Pure Stage2 B58 right now.

Awesome work. Looking forward to the finalized numbers especially with a bolted up b58 with meth.

Curious as to why you guys chose the CPI route vs upgraded LPFP/HPFP.

Cost... Upgraded high pressure pumps are really expensive and difficult to install/remove where as CPI is much easier and provides similar performance gains.

Ah gotcha. But then wouldn't it add to the complexity, seeing as how you'd need a controller? Either JB4 or something to integrate with existing flash tunes.
As a customer, I'm willing to pay $$$ for a plug and play situation. We're not the cheapo 10-year old N54 crowd lol.

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn more

Yes you need an electric controller or a JB4 for the CPI, we have options for both. I know other companies are working on high pressure pump upgrades so you also have those options. From what I've seen they start in the $2500 range. CPI is something you could do under $1000 including the kit, controller, chargepipe or adapter plate, and even throwing in a flex fuel sensor for good measure.

The B58 aftermarket is just starting to open up so you'll have no shortage of options I'm sure.

Could you hit these same type of numbers with just meth and 93?

Maybe even more as you won't be limited by fuel pressure.

Is your source of fueling going to be like meth injection practically through a throttle plate?

We're running it through bungs on a chargepipe currently, the throttle place spacing would be tricky for CPI but we're evaluating that too.

So if you were able to run 19psi on a PS2 turbo, what's the limitation on stock turbo? I think a stock turbo E85 tune would be awesome and we've seen some dynos from other tuners the past few weeks.

Don't know how much more power than can maybe beyond this but we'll find out soon enough. Maybe 500whp is possible with bolt ons?

Will there be any benefit for a fuel upgrade if you drive on 93 octane with the standard turbo?

For 93 octane probably not a huge benefit, because octane will limit how much boost you can run in that situation. It's really for E85 use.

Were EWG wires being used in this bef setup?

Any updates from Fuel-It! Wondering if their CPI kit is good enough for full E85 on a stock turbo or PS2.
