CD73 Radio doesn't turn on

Hi to all,

We recently bought a 2009 318d estate, it was cheap because of a few issues and the one that has me puzzled is that the radio won't even turn on.

Its a Alpine CD73 Professionnal with frontal CD, the cd does load and eject, the lights come on with driving lights but the rest of the radio doesn't work and of course, no sound, no rear sensor beeps, no chimes for seat belt or door open while driving.

I checked all the fuse, there is 12V coming to the radio, I even took it out and tried direct 12v from another battery and exactly the same. I can power the backlight but the screen stays black as night and can't turn it on.

I also tried to press the m, menu and power buttons for 10 to 25 sec and nothing.

Opening the radio, I can find voltage going to the screen but that's about it, I have no clue how to properly diagnose such an issue on the board.

Is there a common fault I'm missing? anyone have any ideas or is it just dead and I need to give up?

Any help is appreciated

Regards

Sebastien

You can buy them on ebay pretty cheap but they must be programmed
for the sound system in your car.

The only two common faults are the display going bad and
static noise on some serial numbers.

If you have and amp especialy a logic 7 amp its common for them
to go out because of drowning due to water leaks or for one of the
modules in the Most Bus fiber optic loop to go out.
The amp is located behind the US driver side wheel well. The bluetooth
and other modules are located behind the rear seats under the trunk floor.
Any of these being out will take out all sound on most model years
except 06. 06 has a seperate speaker for the gongs in most model years
the gongs come the stereo.

Run a vin checker on your car to find out what you actually or should
have from the factory.
