Is 215 hp enough horsepower?
I am looking to buy a 325i now because its in my price range and im now 21 and going to lease a car on my own and not have my parents help me out anymore... I currently drive a 2004 tahoe...and before that I had a Corvette Z06....Going from 405hp dream car to an SUV wasnt the greatest thing in the world...but now going to a 215hp sedan is it going to be quick at all? or am i just gonna be a regular car on the road....I am going to get the manual transmission....Thanks

In most instances, the 215hp in the 325i is enough...especially coupled with the manual transmission. Don't let the 215hp fool you, BMW horses always feel a little more spritely than expected...of course other posters here would chime that horsepower (and straightline acceleration) isn't everything without control (sounds like an old Pirelli tagline )...and this is where BMW's handling prowess and feel would come in.......you're eventually gonna come into a corner

The car feels plenty quick for me, but then again i came from a honda civic ex (98) so this car is like a bullet compared.

WOW, you or your parents must be doing very well financially.
21 years old and already a Z06, Tahoe, and now a E90. Good for you! All I gotta say, why did you get rid of the Z06? The E90 is a nice car but it seems you are going all over the place... real sport car, huge SUV, and now BMW. What's on your mind?

Since you are going to lease, may want to look into the 330 as the money factor is less on the 330 than the 325. You may be able to get a 330 for the payment of the 325 (all depends on how you equip the car) and get the 255 hp.

enough and horsepower don't belong in the same sentence (dammit I just did it!)
the 325 gets out of it's way OK, it's not slow, but it's certainly not exciting (in a straight line) either. The 330 isn't that much stronger (or they were both not exciting in a straight line) so that's why I cheaped out on the 325 |

330 most certaintly isn't that much stronger. Agreed Ward. The performance margin is narrow between the two, I'm really beginning to wonder why one would ever by a 330? LoL, seriously, pardon the increased content and "slightly" more responsive engine.

I'm not sure I want to head down the 330 325 argument, but coming from the daily driver I was using, both E90's were slower so I personally decided to save some cash
I think the main diff between the 330 and 325 is at high RPM's where the 325 falls flat but the 330 keeps pulling, at low RPM's and around town it's not as much of a difference. |

LOL the reason i got rid of the Z06.........If you look in the record books of Dekalb county in Georgia you will see a highest recorded speeding ticket which is held by me for 181 in a 55.......Spent a few hours in jail, had about 10 cops come, and a helicopter.....and the funny thing is I didnt even know they were chasing me until I got off an exit.....went to court and luckily with a lawyer who knew the judge got my ticket reduced to 22 over so I didnt lose my lisence and got the wreckless driving thrown out.....it cost us a ton and a stipulation was I had to sell the car.....lesson in point(from my dad and judge and lawyer) dont buy your son a corvette when he graduates high school.....haha....oh well thanks for the input, hopefully I wont get another ticket with this car!
I have always just liked nice cars and i always wanna have the newest and the best...when i was 16 my parents got me a brand new expedition, then a couple of months later got a jeep wrangler also.....after HS graduation sold them both and got an 02 Z06...drove that until what happened above and then got a big SUV to slow me down with 24's and spinners and all that crap and wasnt really my style just wanted a hot looking car, now im at a sedan because its peppy and with some rims and tint will look hot and thats why ive found myself at a 3 series....and i really dont want to be too fast im trying to not get another ticket and keep my record clean.....even though ive had 11 tickets since i was 16......gotta love lawyers |

when i configure the 325 vs 330, with both about equal in options
the 330 is bout 1500 more. Its up to you if you think the 40 HP and random other stuff is worth the difference. ~fk |

Coming from a guy who once owned a mustang cobra and Mitsu Evo, the 325i is "anemic". I wanted a BMW because of the balance of driving dynamics with "creature comforts" and the 325 was best suited for my budget.

Compared to the e46 323i, the e90 325 even in auto is a rocket!!!
