People who should have their BMWs confiscated:

I was dropping a friend off tonight at one of the Northwestern University dorms when i noticed a SG 325i right next to me. This is my first BMW and i just picked it up thursday night, so i was excited to give a fellow e90 driver the thumbs up and MAYBE have it returned. The guy looks at me for a second, and instead of returning my gesture the douchebag flips me off!

Anyone else ever have that happen to them?

Maybe he was having "penis" envy, seeing that you have a 330i and he has a lowly 325i.

But that doesn't excuse his retarded response.

I used to own a wrx and was always greeted by fellow subies with a thumbs up. Since driving a bimmer, I've had to tone down my enthusiasm for greeting other E90 owners. Most of them just look at me like I'm a freak. Oh well, I guess it's just the way it is. Not to disrespect anyone, but I notice that for example M3 folks always gotta cut me off to remind me that they've got a beefier car. With subies, it seemed like all that crap didn't matter. Whether an STi or old school impreza, it was all good!

Btw, northwestern eh? That used to be my old stomping grounds. I miss it sometimes, but sure don't miss the cold winter wind coming off that big ass lake.

I used to do the thumbsup thing to other Legacy GT owners last summer...I got nothing but cold stares. I think the Subie thing is for Impreza/STi owners only.....

When I pass other E90s I look, but people never look back. I guess us Forum Fanatics are different....

Does anyone really care when they get the finger shown to them? I really couldn't give a shit, and most of the time I dont bother looking at them. Personally I would never make the effort to drive by someone and flip them off if they havent done anything. But if they do something to really piss me off, I usually get infront of them and slow down, a lot...

most of the people around here (CA) who buy 3-series are badge buyers, not enthusiasts. they couldn't give two shits about what's under the hood of their car.

In LB I know a lot of younger propeller heads who do give a shit, but most of the older folks, especially in my age group, don't care or know. They are as you said, unfortunatally, "badge buyers".

93% of BMW owners are badge buyers. The other 7% post and lurk on the message boards (us). HA!
The only way I would give a thumbs up or acknowledge a fellow car enthusiast, is if they take pride in their car. Car is extremely clean, tasteful mods, etc..

That's a shame. It would be a shame even if you were in a Dodge K car. There is no civility left in this country. Someone waves, gives thumbs up, or just a smile, it should be returned.

I had a beautiful M3 following me one day for a few miles, and when he finally passed me we both gave each other a thumbs up and a smile. That was refreshing.

I had a couple of thumbs up given to me in the last couple of weeks, and I them my typical response...a small, but deliberate lifting of the hand in return, as if waving in a friendly, non-descript way. Never been a thumbs up kind of guy, but I don't mind at least giving some type of ack. Most Bimmer owners around here though, don't even look, but I did have an X5 attempt to run off the line with me. So much for a friendly hello.

i don't bother. most bmw's around here (there are a lot) are driven by non-enthusiasts. they'll just give you a weird look or maybe even think you're flippin them off.

In traffic, some guy surprises me and cuts in front of me violently in the left lane, with a honda Accord V6 (stick). There was less than 12 inches between us but he kept it on low gear and never braked, which did not require me to break. He then lept out to the middle lane, when it was clear and gunned it. I followed him and eventually he got jammed between two Hyundais. I caught up to him and kept him there for a minute before I let him into the middle lane in front of me, while giving him a thumbs up, I was in awe of his masterfull driving skills and he recirpocated with a thumbs up. :rocks:

I've done that before....

What I hate is when you let them in because you are being nice, and then they think they are hot shit and that they got infront of you...
