B58 issues? MPG? Comparisons to N55?

The B58 has been out for several years now. Have there been any major issues that a prospective buyer would need to be aware of?

This engine is in most BMW chassis at this point. I've had a few in loaner vehicles and have been impressed every time. It seems smoother and also makes more power up top vs my N55. How are they holding up as miles pile on?

Any major issues or things to worry about? Also, is the real world MPG over the long-term as good as my experience have been? Got 29+ for a few days in a 540i, 27mpg in an X5 with a decent amount of city driving.

I would love to get thoughts from those who have gone from an N55 powered vehicle to a B58 vehicle.

It's better.

Seriously though it's a great engine. I bought a 2016 with 35k miles a few months back after driving some loaners and haven't had any issues. ~34mph on highway trips, way more power up top as you said and huge tuning potential now that multiple flash tunes are out. I haven't seen many major engine issues on the forum and I know multiple people with 60k+ on their B58s now with no issues.

How could you reach those 25+ mpg in 540i and X5? I can only get 19-22 mpg while driving in San Diego. The car can reach around 33 mpg on highway at 75-80 mph however I think my routine stop-n-go, climb hill and down hill drive makes the mpg really bad. By the way I can only reach 25-26 mpg for the G20 330i as well which is also lower than the EPA value.

Less traffic here for sure. Last tank in my 335i I got 30.0 right on the dot which is not an uncommon number for me. I can get 28.5 to 31 in mixed but mostly highway driving. On road trips I get 33+ and two trips at 35+ and those were at speeds of 70-85mph.

I have just over 100 000kms on my 2016 340xi. I haven't had so much as a single code as yet. It is far better thus far than either my N55 or N54 in terms of reliability and spirited driving stock.

I have the MG Flasher Stage II time on the car now and it is just amazing!

65k mpg 22 (note I'm always in sports mode and I have a habit of causing my mppsk to pop and bang) solid engine no major issue with it or the transmission.

Nice! I'm at 36k miles now and about to flash it with BM3. How many KMs have you been tuned for?
