BMW 440i - MPPK and MPE?? - NO MSport Package
I bought a 440i Coupe (RWD) about a year ago and I'm currently thinking about installing the MPPSK on my car. I'm having trouble deciding if I should do it because I could not spend the money to buy the M-Sport package on my car at the time, and I have never seen a non-msport 340i or 440i with the MPPK and MPE installed. Is it even possible to install it on a non-msport car? Is it even worth it? Has anyone here done the install on a bmw without the msport package? I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions.
Also, I still have 2 years of factory warranty left and I'm trying to play it safe which is why I'm not looking into other tunes. Last edited by 7142118; 04-08-2019 at 05:07 PM.. |

There is no such thing as "MPPK and MPE" for 440i. There is a single product called MPPSK (M Performance Power and Sound Kit).
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1304356 There is also just an Exhaust (MPE), which however is not the same exhaust as in MPPSK. Still an upgrade, but only half-way. And no power increase (no software with it).

Look at the Brochure. Don't recall any dependency. It is purely an exhaust system + Software. Shouldn't matter.

If you plan on a tune later, skip the MPPSK.
The MPE is OK. Better route if planning on a tune later. But wouldn't be my first choice with what's available. Changing out the muffler won't void your warranty, but if I had the choice again... I would go with the Akropovic. Just my opinion. |

The only thing that would be wrong with installing MPPSK is that your car may end up looking like a wheelbarrow. The tips stick out more than the stock tips, and even on the M Sport, you ideally need to upgrade the rear diffuser.

I don't really have the same impression... if they stick out more, it is not really noticeable. They are bigger diameter of course, but I wouldn't say they stick out. If yours do - then the tips are not pressed in all the way (one can adjust that).

MPE doesn't have the valve its eliminated. It's like 25-30% louder then the oem muffler with stock down-pipe and such so for $1,000 you might have a better option of getting a different brand muffler like Dinan or whatever else is on the market. I have the MPE and with a down-pipe it sounds great, but i don't think i would purchase it if i was planning on keeping a stock down-pipe or mid pipe unless it came with my car as a option off the dealer lot. MPPSK pretty much is straight pipe, it deletes the resonators and when the 2 valve opens in sport it bypasses the muffler and it has a factory flash... burbles more and such and adds like 25-35whp (guesstimating this) over a non mppsk car, but it does come with a price tag not including the labor to install it. If you pair the MPE with a dinan mid pipe I'm pretty sure it will sound nice. If you plan on going mppsk and getting a down-pipe the car will be loud as hell especially catless. I hope this helps you decide, but please do something about the exhaust because the B58 is the best sounding straight 6 BMW engine....

What year is your vehicle? Is it still under factory warranty?
Also - can you be more specific about your goals: - Better exhaust? - More horsepower? - Retain the warranty? - Stay within MPPSK price + installation? |

Only one way ahead (and it is totally worth it) - MPPSK!

From a cost perspective, the MPPSK is approximately $2800. Are there other solutions that provide increased sound, none-to-little HP, but still maintain warranty? Anyone have experience with MPE? |

MPE is the only other OEM solution, which maintains the warranty. It will give you ~40% improved sound (from what MPPSK would give you) and 0% power increase. Of course much cheaper.

When I was at BMW yesterday finalizing the paperwork, I asked them for a quote for the MPPSK with the chrome tips and they quoted me 18,000 AED excluding labor (This included 30% discount) - the equivalent of $4,900 for just the parts. I literally almost fell out of the chair. I've obviously been doing a ton of research in anticipation of my new car and have my mind set on eventually getting the MPPSK, but at that price (knowing what it costs in the U.S and U.K) it's not worth it/financially possible. So my question is now; does anyone know if I order it from the U.S. or Europe and get a BMW mechanic to install it, will the tune will be available - if I'm not mistaken this is VIN specific and a coding process? In short, has anyone ordered the MPPSK and had it installed elsewhere? Your answer could save me upwards of $2,000 Thanks in advance! |

I asked a service advisor here in the US about this a while ago. You can't get the tune done except at a BMW dealer. If you order it and your dealer doesn't agree to install it you'll end up having a nice exhaust but no tune. |

My next plan of action is going to be to go back in there and ask them if they will do the tune and install the parts, if I order the parts from overseas. @Kendo67 paid less than 1700 pounds, approximately, 8,500 AED for parts, install and carbon tips! They've charged me 18,000 AED just for parts |

Keep in mind that the MPPSK set is a HUGE(!) box (bigger than what you can for in a car)! Not sure what the shipping costs (+ import duties ) would be.
My advise is - negotiate a better price and/or ask for an offer from a different BMW dealership. I had mine installed in Germany after asking for several offers and choosing the cheapest.

Oh yeah the box!!! It's the size of a car!!! You will definitely part duties when it enters the Emirates and shipping will be costly. If you can't afford MPPSK from the dealer just go aftermarket and get a BM3 tune or something.

I've reached out to a couple dealers in the other Emirates to see what they can offer me. Fingers crossed they aren't as greedy. |
