For those with the OEM spoiler
Those of you that had to buy the primed spoiler and then have it painted... (if you dont mind me asking)
How much did it cost for you to have the item painted? did you pay for the install as well? If so, how much? I am looking to possibly buy a spoiler that might come painted already in Monaco Blue. I am trying to see if the price can be justified for buying it painted, or whether I should just buy the primed spoiler, and have a local paint shop paint it... Thanks for your help... |

Wow, $600 is quite a bit. I ordered a painted spoiler from Morristown BMW for $230.

$230 is probably not OEM. Lots of internet sites sell after-market painted ones for the same price. The paint costs $85 from these websites. If you think the local paint shop can save you some bucks, then do it. For me, within $20-$30 difference, I'll buy it painted to save me a round trip to/from the paint shop. I had my aftermarket Hartge lip painted at the local shop for only $100 (Arctic), but I hated to carry it back and forth. BTW, I bought it for only $99 unpainted.

Well it should at least be $365 since that's what it is listed as on bmwusa.com. Then it should be at least $100 more for paint (non standard color) and $100 more for install, so it should be at least $500, but some dealers could be giving good deals. I know I paid a bit much maybe but I really wanted it and didn't want to wait until I got the car to shop around for prices and have it installed elsewhere.

Thanks for the replies so far...
Here is my worry though... I have seen that a few people with the spoilers that the edges start to lift off of the trunk over time. If I do get it painted and installed by a local shop, then I would make sure there is a guarantee with their work, and would have some security if I have this problem. I asked my dealership about what they would do for the spoiler, and they just handed me the # of the paint shop where they send their cars for this sort of work. The dealership themselves do not do it. As of now, I am leaning towards buying the primed spoiler, and having it painted and installed. I do have an opportunity to buy a monaco blue spoiler at a decent price... Bah... I need to make up my mind... |

Check it out for yourself. I'm pretty sure the one I bought is from BMW. It arrived to my work address on Friday afternoon but I haven't seen it because I left work early.

basically you can get it painted from many places for 300$ and under. the install is easy . why anyone would pay for it to be installed is beyond me. |

Bought mine from kgildenmeister on ebay for 339.95 painted, and installed it myself. The spoiler came from a BMW dealership back East. Look him up and you can probably order the same. This was a new OEM part.

Im a DIY person through and through... But if there is going to be a problem with the ends of the spoiler lifting off of the body, I want to be able to take it back to the install shop and have it properly fixed. Theres still a good chance Ill do it myself... Just something that Ive been thinking about... |

If I get the OEM spoiler, I'll probably tape it down and let it sit overnight to be safe. |

Not being very much of a DIY person, I bought the pre-painted spoiler from Pacific BMW for $268, then had my local dealership install it for about $100 (with coupon discount on labor).
I figure this way, if there's any problem with the edges lifting up I can bring it back. |

The spoiler comes with double-sided tape toward the front, and Betalink adhesive for the rest. If you DIY, you may want to add some extra Betalink to the front sides of the spoiler as well. That stuff sticks incredibly well.

I was thinking about this. Maybe adding a little more towards the edges. I would just like to make sure this thing isnt popping up even a few months from now. I would like for it to stay on the car permanently... |

Before the install, I purchased clamps of different shapes and sizes, but due to the contours on the inside of the trunk, it was difficult to use them. I resorted to using Heavy Duty packaging tape all around the spoiler. I even taped from front to the back underside lip of the trunk in several areas while the adhesive was drying.

Buy it on ebay. Take it to a local shop and get it painted for about $100 or less. Then take it home and install it yourself.

Mine was Free. And they even put it on the car. So were my 195 Style rims and so where the carbon fiber lips. My dealer loves me. LOL, they should have given me the car for free too.
