I've never had an LSD on any of my cars, but WOW what a difference it makes in cornering! You can pretty much get away with anything when throwing this car around corners! I love it!

The feeling of an open diff sucks. All the 6 cylinder cars should have had at least a simple clutch type LSD or at least bolted differential gears to make upgrading easy.

LSD ON ZHP 2018 340i

Hi - I have a ZHP 2018 340i Melbourne Red (ZHP on window sticker). I was advised has LSD... but when I raised the car and turned one rear wheel forward the other wheel turned the opposite direction - not the same direction forward. According to some posts, this suggests no LSD...? I'm confused. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks

With an lsd, the wheels will turn in the same direction.

An LSD makes it so both wheels receive that same amount of power at the same time. The way you describe the behavior it is not an LSD. Check your VIN if it came with the car from factory, if not get under the car and cross reference the part number on your diff if its visible.

I definitely have the LSD on my car as it shows on my window sticker and I notice it when driving. I also have an email from BMW stating it has the LSD. Are you sure it's not there?

How does this compare to the eLSD which is only activated when in DSC OFF mode?

I think that would be a locked diff. A limited slip diff gives a percentage of power to the less connected wheel. I think percentages for road cars are ~ 10% to 40%?

My understanding is that the eLSD on the 340i attempts to act like an LSD by using your brakes. If the eLSD detects that one wheel is spinning too much, it applies the brakes to that wheel in attempt to help gain traction. The mechanical LSD can distribute the power to the wheel that has the most grip without applying any brakes. Thus, you shouldn't experience any slow down through corners.

You have that right, but I'm not sure if it is an eLSD. The LSD on ZHP is an M-Performance LSD. Not sure if that is different from what you are saying.

LSD ON ZHP 2018 340i

My question is for F30ZHP... Mine lists ZHP on the window sticker and is the same Melbourne Red color as yours and same 19 inch rims as yours... That's why I'm curious... If your car is up in the air and you spin one wheel forward, does the other wheel spin opposite direction or same? Thanks

I believe since the M Performance LSD (included with ZHP) is a clutch based system it won't lock until the car is under power and certain conditions are met.

If the LSD is clutch based, then is it possible I do have LSD as stated on my window sticker - even if if car is raised and wheels spin in opposite directions when one is pushed forward?

Ahhhh I did not think of that!! Good call! If he puts the car up on a rack and the car is in neutral, then the wheels WOULD spin in opposite directions.

My car is an 8 speed auto, which most like means if I get it up on a rack, and the car is in neutral, I'm not sure what would happen.
