How much are you paying for insurance?

Hi all,

I just got a X5 on swap a lease for 12 months to get loyalty credit and to
Wait for the hotness of the X7 to die down
when my Volvo lease ended in February a few dealers
Wanted full msrp so I can't justify that.

When I called Geico to get a potential quote on the X7
It was 250 a month when. Seems very high.
36 and married with kids no accidents knock on wood or speeding tickets.
Standard policy with glass and 500 deductable. In NY but not the city or long island
Based on driving to work etc and roughly 15k miles a year.

Would you mind sharing what you're paying ?
Thanks

Just curious, MrSnoopy how does that $250/month X7 quote compare directly with the previous car you were driving?

In Long Island. Initial quote was around $4k a year. Almost double what we pay for my wife’s Q7. I jacked up the deductible to $2k — figure I’m not going to bother with insurance claims unless it’s something big. That brought it down considerably. But yeah, it was crazy expensive. Oh and married, 42, 3 kids, clean record.

Something about the big BMWs....I can’t remember the details now but I remember my insurance jumped a lot when moving from Maserati QP to BMW 750. I ditched geico earlier this year (after almost 20 years) and saved a few hundred with Allstate - love geico but couldn’t justify paying that much more for their customer service. Haven’t had an accident with Allstate (knock on wood) but they’ve been OK with the routine renewal, ID card stuff.

$600 a year to add to my plan with 2 other cars. Total for all 3 cars is $2300. 1k deductible on all 3. Garaged in Boston. FWIW, the Honda Civic that this replaced on the policy was $475 a year.

Haha thanks Wild Blue. Was my fiancé’s old commuter that was sitting around not being driven. So wanted to make some garage space.

My X7 40i costs $732 for 6 months ($122/month). TX, Geico, $750 deductible, 2-car discount applied. I guess it will be slightly higher for X7 50i. Geico does not like high performance cars with heavy engines. They do not offer mechanical breakdown insurance (MBI) for AMG and M cars.

$1360/yr 250/500k-Hanover Platinum Auto Advantage $500 Deductible
Newer car replacement coverage with in year 1. it went up 250/yr from our 2014 X5 which did not have new car replacement. Connecticut-35 yo, 2 drivers, 2 kids, clean records. I also have home owners and a million dollar umbrella through them. Hey Otis, why sooo high? Is it just because more risk around NYC? Have you shopped for better rate?

Bump. I am paying $160 a month for 2021 x7 m50 with full coverage and multi car discount through State Farm. Full coverage with $500 deductible. They offered the safety beacon for 15% savings but decided not to install for now.

I own a lot of cars and my house and other items are on the same policy so I get every discount you can get. I have $500 deductible, towing, loaner car, etc..... for my auto policy. I am only paying $675 a year for a new $130K X7 M50i. You wouldn’t believe how low my new M2 Competition is.. My location, garage kept, and multiple policies are a big factor in my rate. State Farm is my company. I do keep my toys with Progressive but they are dirt cheap as well. A $30k classic Harley, 2 ATV’s are only $120 a year for full coverage. $80K boat is $110 a year.

Wow...I am clearly doing something wrong. I need to look around or my wife’s driving record (accident a year ago) is killing us. We also have our house umbrella and jewelry coverage.

800 per year full coverage for x7 40i in Dallas. 500k/500k limit and 1000 deductible.

Auto, Homeowners, 5 million umbrella and personal article policy through Cincinnati. I have shopped them all - State Farm, Chubb, pure, nationwide, geico, farmers and many others. They could not touch cinci on the whole package.

300k/300k Body injury liability
100k property damage liability
25k/50k uninsured motorist

Insurance is a necessary tool these days, but some people pay too much and don't take risks. In my opinion, the best way to go if you live in the US is not to buy expensive insurance and invest your money in some business. Today is a good opportunity to start investing in any IT or real estate area. I have 3 houses for rent and am thinking about buying the 4th one. With the help of this service squeeze.com, I managed to shorten my overall bill expenses, so I can say that I don't pay bills rn anyway) Have a great day, and thank you for sharing your opinions. It was an interesting topic to read.

I'm very similar to your insurance premiums. Except I'm on west coast.

Central coast CA, 47, Married, 2 kids, 2 cars (x7, x3) two drivers on policy. House, Umbrella, Rental property, Earthquake. $1k collision and $500 comp deductible, $0 glass deductible and OEM parts coverage, $500k/$500k uninsured/bodily injury, $100k property damage. Also with Farmers. X7 was $1100 first year, $1275 second year, $1350 this year.

All 6 policies together is about $4,500 a year to farmers.
