M Door sill protection?
I have yet to take pull the blue film which is protecting my M door sills from scratches. My other car that has similar silver door sills and they have been murdered/scratched from various passengers... women in heels.
Does anyone have any methods for clearly protecting the door sills? TT |

My last ride had lighted SS steps. I taught my kids and wife how to always step over them when getting in and out. Clear protective film would work but would be visible. You could get a pro shop to put it on for better results.

I just had them leave the plastic on mine as well. I love how it comes with the illuminated door sills.

You can buy Xpel strips that will work pretty well. I have them on my Corvette. When they get scuffed up, pull them off and put on new ones.

I’ve got a metal polishing kit with various cloth backed sandpaper grits made for metal. When the asshole techs would grind their gritty shoe soles onto my door sills I would usually end up sanding out the scratches and then bringing the scratch pattern back to the original factory finish by working my way through several grits. It looks like that technique would not work here though because I’d end up scratching the M inserts in the process. The middle part with the mirror finish would be hard to bring back scratch free too.
Are the strips made of stainless steel? Somewhere I saw aluminum but they don’t look like aluminum on my X5. Last edited by maczrool; 06-02-2019 at 06:18 AM.. |

So you are driving around a fancy luxury car with the shitty plastic wrap intended to be removed upon delivery? You realize they make it blue so that you see it and remove it? Why bother making it aluminum? They could have just made all the trim out of blue disposable protective plastic wrap.

One million percent this. I mean - it’s a car. Also, 99% of the people in here will be done with this car in, say, 4 years. Just enjoy it and don’t spend your life trying to protect it.

Nah, i quick bit of xpel is cheap, easy, and works fine.
I know this is going to sound like crazy talk, but what would be wrong with door sills designed to be stepped on without scratching? I mean why put a piece of soft metal there that practically says "step on me" and make it out of a soft easily scratched material? Don't get that one. |
