The move away from leather interior
Interesting wonder how BMW stands on moving away from leather.

I thought BMW already had. Their leather is shite and feels like Sunday market handbag.

Quite like the look of alcantara and I believe it’s only a third of the weight ( or saves a third in weight- unsure) but a weight saving nevertheless

I specified cloth sports seats in my E91 and far preferred them to the standard leather in my F31 : cooler in summer; warmer in winter; holds you in place through the twisters.

The best leather ive had on car seats by far is Momo leather as used in Alfa Romeo,s
Very soft , supple ,well finished and most of all very durable . My first alfa was a 156 gta sportwagon which I owned for several years as the 2nd owner , after 10 years there were no signs of wear on the drivers seat bolsters whatsoever .!!!!!! |

Agree with this, but Teaston points out the main negative of cloth seats .. it's a bugger to get any stains out and the leather wins here.

Had a Merc with so called 'Artico' manmade leather was absolute shite.
Didn't breath at all, made you sweat like mad on a hot day and parts would crack / split like vinyl.... never again |

I'm sure I read that there was a shortage of alcantara due to demand.

To me it is either textile OR high quality leather (e.g. Merino). Cheap leather feels crappy and sweaty. Still takes extra maintenance.
The ones I hate most however are alcantara...! Look terrible, feel shitty, not easy to maintain. Let it be just me. Huge turn off for me.

Would never go back to a non-leather interior - really hate a touch of cloth when I'm driving
Fair enough if you only have to transport adults with a limited propensity for dropping either sticky liquids or other bodily fluids on your seats, but for those with kids or grandkids, wipeable surfaces are a must..... |

Kids on expensive leather seats.... not so sure...
I probably have OCD about scratches, but still... Either way - neither kids, nor adults are allowed to consume any food or bevarages (except water) in my cars. That's a car, not a fast-food restaurant. I have no problem with people who don't share that view - the bus is always an alternative way of transportation. Eat and drink there, if allowed...

stop wanking in your car then.
i wish my car had cloth seats, i've never really understood the whole leather thing. same could be said for other types of activity involving leather.... trouble is theres no one that ever specs a new car with cloth sports seats, and i'm one of the nearly-new vultures. |
