2015 335d coming up to 50k

As per the title, my F31 xDrive is coming up to the 50k mark and the MOT is due soon.

Any recommend checks or preemptive work that people recommend?

All the service indicators are showing as green with at least 15000 miles on the counts.

Uneven tyre wear, possible 4-wheel alignment.

4 new summers went on in aug/sep and alignment was done at same time. Winter boots on currently so summers will have loads of tread.

Does the gearbox oil need changing at any point?

But BMW tell you not to touch it. Having spoke to a very reputable BMW specialist their advise was that unless you have issues with your gearbox then don't touch it. I'd be inclined to agree.

BMW also tell you that long oil service intervals do no harm. Having nearly suffered timing chain failure on my previous car I take with a pinch of salt anything bmw say. More inclined to listen to ZF the manufacturer.

It makes no financial sense for BMW to tell you NOT to service it if it needs servicing.

Has anyone had any issues with their high mileage ZF 8 speed that hasn't been serviced?

I think extended service intervals are more to satisfy fleet buyers as it keeps the initial cost of ownership down. Sold my e91 320d at 204k miles, still on original turbo and I serviced it every 8/9k miles. Obviously this is only my own experience but it was a winning formula for me.

BMW seal for life is a big bag of BS designed to onboard fleet managers plus I'd trust ZF's word over BMW.

I don't think leaving 19k miles between intervals is a wise idea if you plan to keep the car for long as I do. My car had regular servicing as per the 19k schedule and the timing chain slacked at 100k miles.

Gearbox: look at the oil condition of a 8HP that has done 100k miles and tell me you don't think gearbox oil should be replaced.

I know 2 cases F10 (8HP) E90 (6HP) where the mechatronix unit gave up at between 80-100k miles. Cause of failure... yeap no oil change.

check your coolant line, the one that runs along the front of thr engine bay, maybe 1/8" diameter. I just hit 55k miles and mine snapped off where the plastic end meets the line, a week later I find this thread where alot of people have this same problem.

PSA for high mileage 335's, check your coolant hoses... https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1547622
