Why do Laser lights (Executive Package) require the Premium Package?
For the G20 330i / m340i can someone tell me why do you need both of these packages to be able to get the laser lights (u shape daytime running lights) It becomes like $3500 just for that when I don't want all the other stuff. The standard LED look like an underline which don't look as nice in my opinion.

Theres actually 3 lights. if you have m-sport or convenience package which I'd guess a lot of people will get you have the middle one which is the adaptive LEDs, which is more like a smaller U shape and not a line. Personally there is no way I'd pay for executive just to get laser lights which I'm guessing I'll almost never use since they are only high beams. |

For the same reason they made the Adaptive LED's aesthetically inferior to the laser lights (and the F30 LCI Adaptive LED's). To pressure folks into buying a package they don't need to keep BMW's average selling price higher.

It is a stair step system, so getting the top tier package means you also get everything under it.

How are you happy with the short beam throw of adaptive LEDs? Is it good enough for high-speed night highway driving?

I'm torn between Adaptive LED and Lasers cause I'm doing a lot of night highway miles (150kmh+ averages) so a long throw of main beam is a must for me. Currently my local dealership only has a G20 inside the saloon, so I didn't have the change to test drive it to see how good are these lights from first hand. I currently have bi-xenon on my car, and while I found that latest generation of LEDs are brighter than xenons, I also see that most LED healidghts have shorter throw compared to xenons. This is probably related to different internal optics of LED projectors. I'm also not a fan of colder LED light temperature because it lacks some contrast, especially in poor weather, in comparison to Xenon(HID). However, from what I've seen and read so far these latest generation LEDs are far better than early LED systems from 5 years ago. Last edited by Calamari; 03-23-2019 at 03:40 PM.. |
