Implementing VO changes, without updating FA
I'll use the example of updating basic Bluetooth (6NH) to Extended Bluetooth (6NS).
I can do this on my car by changing the entry in the SALAPA element list, no problem. However, while implementing all the FDL changes for the head unit, I would like the car's VO list to remain unchanged from the original 6NH. I could do this by successive VO changes, comparing all the before and after edits in the CAFDs and then editing each one back into the car. A bit laborious! Is there some change I can make in the procedure that I have actually used that will simplify this? What I normally use (not necessarily understanding each step): 1. Connect to car, read VO to display FA, save it under a new file name. 2. Under Vehicle Order, click on “Edit”. The view changes to FA Editor. 3. Expand the FAList folder list, until SALAPA-Element is visible. 4. Delete & add elements into the list. 5. Click on Save Changes icon in the elements window. 6. Verify the edited FA: right click on FA and select Calculate FP. 7. Click on save icon to save new FA. 7. Select Expert Mode / VCM. 8. Load saved FA file (VO window)and calculate FP again. 9. Select VCM Master tab. 10. Click on Write FA FP button to write new FA to the car. 11. To configure ECU (i.e. head unit), select Coding tile. 12. Under VO read FA, activate FA., Read SVT (... 13. For each ECU to be configured, right click on the ECU and CODE. I'm guessing that omitting #10 might be the answer. But will it all still work? |

Just a second thought: what happens at #12. Is it expecting to read the FA from the car, or somehow what I've just edited and not saved? I get a bit confused here. |

Did this work for you? I also want to keep the VO unchanged but make a few significant changes, like adding electric memory seats, heated steering wheel, heated seats.

I had also tried it when I swapped the original halogen fog lights for the LCI LEDs, VO coding 520 to 5A1. This was a mess, with the new lights not working and numerous error codes, probably because the LEDs weren't around when my car was built. I believe that I could have edited the build date but this was a bit too adventurous for me. So I stuck with the usual simple FDL changes for LED bulbs. The other potential downside to VO coding is that you lose all the FDL changes that you may have already spent a lot of time implementing. |
