Mono audio wanted - F30

Hi
I've gone completely deaf in one ear; is there easy way to set audio to deliver mono rather than stereo in F30 standard audio system?

Thanks

Balance controls my friend. Set the fader to front if it helps. Then left or right balance depending on your ear.

Media > Settings > Tone > Balance / Fader

Does the left right balance actually combine the stereo channels though? Or does it just turn one channel down and the other up?

Obviously he needs the channels to be combined or he will lose some sounds/vocals, especially if he listens to Queen for example!

Good shout Tim. One way to find out OP. Hook up your phone and play this:

Adjust your settings and see what happens.

My theory goes that if your balance is fully shifted to the right and you cannot hear the left channel playing then we know it's not combined and the audio is separate. If you hear the left side on the right with balance then you can break free..

Listen to non-BBC DAB stations.

They all transmit in mono.

Thanks for your help on this - but the L-R balance doesn't play mono, and my audio is FM, not DAB (older F30, 2012)...

Looking for the equivalent of the accessibility function on my phone, which outputs all audio as mono.

Mike

Really? I’ve always wondered why the BBC DAB stations sound better than the rest!

That's the solution then. Everything outputs as mono with that setting on the iPhone. So you can use the car balance settings atop if you want. Radio wise it would involve streaming data off your phone- an app such as Tune In. You can even record shows if you want.

I have checked all the coding possibilities and mono cannot be coded on the FXX series.

Hope your stereo hearing returns soon bud.

Yep.

I listen to Kiss and Kisstory quite a bit and use their own Kiss app now as it does 'HD streaming' over 4G, which is basically 128kbps stereo (same as BBC Radio 1, 2, 1 Extra, 6 music etc). Kiss and Kisstory on DAB are 80kbps mono

They’re the two stations I listen most too! And I have started using the Kiss Kube app now that my rear dashcam has reduced the DAB signal a bit. I’ve got a 100gb data plan so might as well use the app all the time!

I don't believe that is right... Yes, quite a few stations do chose to transmit in mono on DAB, but not all...

Maybe not quite the thread for me to expand into my own thoughts on DAB (I am not a fan)... I much prefer FM broadcasts...
