Good insurers who accept moda

So my current insurers. despite accepting a grille change, won't accept a Rieger spoiler and splitter. They've agreed to cancel insuranc e with no charge 3 months in.

Looking for another that accepts mods - BMW won't as they aren't OEM BMW pieces.

Any help would be appreciated. The comparison sites are BS because they quote you but then it is declined i.e my insurer will insure mods right up until payment page, then the system rejects it.

Who's your current insurer?

One Call. To be fair to them they have been excellent but for whatever reason they can't / won't accept mods relating to spoilers but they got the grille through by adding it as "chassis" at no cost. I ensured I am covered as-is which they agreed to, but they can't do anything about the spoilers.

it's weird because you can add them to quotes and one call do offer a price, but they won't put it through at the end, we even tried it over the phone.

My insurance is now DOUBLE on every quote when I add a front and rear spoiler. Grrrr.

A-Plan insurance - Thatcham office only as they deal with modded cars.
Covered my car & add ons - MP body kit, black grilles, spacers, steinbauer and still cheaper than direct line!

Total BS that you should have a black grill as a mod and pay for it!

They didn't charge me, but they won't cover me for a £100 spoiler and a £125 splitter. I cannot understand it.

if my insurance is going to be astronomical I will have to return the parts.

£400 jumping up to £850 is not okay, and LV just quoted me £1250

If that's all they cost why insure them? If they get damaged in an accident or the car gets stolen just take the £225 hit.

Insurance could be voided for undisclosed modifications

Years ago some insurance companies did try to get out of paying out due to undeclared mods, there was even a woman it happened to because her car had window stickers! But that kind of thing isn't allowed to happen anymore, it's only if the insurers can argue that the mod caused the accident, for example if you fit cheap wheel spacers and then one of the wheels falls off.

Do you know if there is any evidence or case law to support this? I don't mean that in a "prove it" way, I literally mean do you know of anything I could read up on

Gonna have a google. I just don't want to risk a 440i being uninsured based on some cheapish mods.

Admiral were fine with all my mods (intake, wheels, spacers, grills, MPPSK which they count separately as both exhaust and ECU mod), in the end they only refused insurance once the power got up to approx 50% more than stock - that was their only limit in regards mods, at least that I came across. I then had to move to Adrian Flux.

I'm pretty sure the government did pass something a few years ago on it, I can't remember what it was called though.

Also my own experience, I've had 3 accidents repaired under insurance in the past 5 years and all with spoilers, full MP kit, black grilles, CF mirrors, spacers, lowering springs etc

Undeclared modifications can invalidate the policy. They would simply argue that they wouldn't have insured the car in the first place...

Worst case scenario but you could end up with a very expensive repair bill.

I think the worst case scenario is quite a bit worse than that. If you injure or kill someone and they claim that perhaps a splitter, brake mod, performance mod... was in some way responsible for the injury, you could be on the hook for a much greater sum than the cost of the car.

I'm sure that this doesn't happen often, but I think declaring mods is a sensible idea.
