Runflat punture repair

Yesterday morning I had just left home when I got a warning that I have a flat tyre, so I immediately return home having driven around 50 yards.

I inspected the tyre (2000 miles old) and sure enough there's a small screw in the centre of the tread.

I phoned BMW assist and gave them all the details assuming they would send someone to repair it, the lady informed me that I should drive the 10 miles to my nearest BMW dealer to get a new tyre fitted as run flat tyres cannot be repaired.

I explained that in my opinion the tyre could be repaired but she was having none of it saying that even if it was repaired it could still only be driven 50 miles before it was replaced.

Unhappy with this I phoned my local independent tyre shop, an hour later the tyre was repaired back on the car at a cost of £16.80.

I cannot understand why some tyre shops will repair while others say it can't be done - rip off or am I risking my life for a couple of hundred quid?

I think its all about liability. The workshop can't tell how long the tyre has run flat so its construction may be compromised long term.
You know that the tyre hasn't run flat significantly though.
Don't worry about it.
