Holy M850i batman...N63TU3

I got my latest car & driver issue yesterday, they road tested the M850i and the 0-60 and 1/4 times are out of this world. I am not sure if this is maybe a ringer that BMW sent to them since every other euro review tested considerably slower. Reason I post this is since it's presumed that this motor is going into the M550i at the latest for the MY 2021 LCI, but rumors say it will come with the MY 2020 car.

0-60 mph 3.3
0-100 mph 7.6
0- 150 mph 18.5 sec

1/4 mile 11.5@123 mph

Your M550 is fast - BMW officially quotes the car 0-60 at 3.9 and the new M850 at 3.6. R&T got 3.6 and C&D appears to have wrung out 3.3. You can get that M850 BMW quoted time easily for around $1,700 with a Dinan Stage 1.

yup - or close enough. that's why i don't have much buyers remorse. I probably would not want to get a 2020 m550i because then the 2021 would be LCI, so i'd be driving around for 2 yrs in an older looking car, rather than just 1 year with my current lease timing - i personally like the revised 7 series so I am sure will love the revised 5 as well.

That is some seriously impressive performance. Might have to trade in my 540i for a LCI M550ix if BMW does the inevitable and kills the regular V8 in the 5 series line and only puts one in the M5 which is too rich for my blood. The next gen will likely mimic MB with a 4 banger, inline 6 doing mid and high line duty (likely an I6 derivative of the X3M motor), and V8 only in M5....

If that's true, I'm glad I bought a 2019 M550i!

If you need that much speed, get a F90 M5 problem solved.

0-60: 2.8 seconds

Quarter mile: 10.8 secs

OK, so interesting revelation here. Motor Trend just tested the 2019 M850i and the times are a lot more consistent with what we expected and what we saw last year.

https://www.motortrend.com/cars/bmw/...t-test-review/

0-60 3.5
11.9 sec @ 116.1 mph

7 mph is a huge disparity between the 2. What’s interesting is in the same issue Car & Driver tested the Bentley Continental GT and had identical 0-60 and ¼ time and trap. I wonder if there was a typo of some sort?

I understand elevation, weather, etc, can all play a huge role here so would be interesting to see what Road & Track gets when they test the M850i.
