Drivetrain pop on 340xi?

My 340xi 6spd seems to have a drivetrain problem. In recent cold weather, upon cold start, when I back up and turn there’s and audible “pop” and it’s forceful to the point that the car actually seems to rock side to side.

Does this sound like its the AWD system buckling? (My guess). Anyhow, Im going to bring the car to dealer under warranty but wanted to be prepared with some forum knowledge on possible causes and remedies.

Thanks, you guys are the best!

maybe have a friend take a video of it?

is it always in conjunction with turning?

Yes, it’s just when turning.

Does the problem occur consistently or only when the weather is cold? The dealer may be reluctant to investigate unless the problem can be replicated.

I also suggest to have a friend record the video.

It’s been happening over the past month, which coincides with cold weather. Good suggestion from you both to video record. I will do and follow up on this thread.

If it's on full lock it should be normal as per BMW service advisor in Orlando. I had the same issue and they said it's normal, more noticable in colder weather.

I had the same issue on my 15' 335. Brought it to the dealer and they found my thrust arm bushing was blown out. They replaced it and I didn't have any issues after that.

Thank. It’s not even full lock when mine is doing that.

But honestly, if it didn’t do it new then I wouldn’t accept the service advisor claims that it was normal.

It only does it once and then it goes away?
