Has it been confirmed that the first US July deliveries will have the old dash, and then productions one month later in August will start the new dash? Not seeing the logic in producing a small intro batch with the old software instead of just making the entire new model launch with the new.

Sounds like the April through July build dates will be with the old dash, and starting with the August build dates they will change out the dash to coincide with the MY 2020 production of all X3s that will get the new updates. That should translate to delivery dates of late October or early November. I'm guessing Bmw M wanted to get the model out there this spring and were able to do so by keeping the current setup and borrowing parts from the M5 on the cockpit and interior to get the car going. I personally plan to wait to order mine.

If correct, I've got to agree it doesn't make a lot of sense to get the older system if just waiting a month or so allows the new dash and software... Suspect trade-in values would be higher with the newer systems as well. Would be nice to get official word on how this will play out.

I'd wait for the August production also...they should launch this later and make them all with the latest tech and dash. Or from day one start with the best and latest; wouldn't that make production cheaper? They have to modify the line in such a short time span...

So you really getting one? You aren't going to miss your meaty 325 rears on our X5M beasts?!?! IDK, what I'm doing...

I'm torn, but if this Thread is accurate, there is no way I'd order one before Aug 2018 production.

Dash gets installed as one complete unit so no they do not have to modify the line. Only change will be that a new dash will be installed. For the supplier that assembles the dash, they may have to change their line but that wont affect BMWs production line.

Video is for X5 but no different for X3 and other BMW models.
skip to :20 mark. You can see one person installing the whole dash and when the arm is retracted all the parts (instrument cluster, etc) are already installed on the dash.

So you're considering to get the X3 M as well? Man, you're incredible, buddy. You change your cars more often than some people change their underwear.

I'm thinking about the X3 M as well. I don't have kids (yet) and I don't really need the luggage storage, but I like the car.

Sure it's not perfect... no laser lights yet, no wider M-body (which is common on the M SUVs, though), the wheels aren't full silver and the tires aren't that wide, which obviously is your main concern. But I like it more than I thought and there just aren't that many other cars I'd consider to replace my M3, so...

LOL changed from a new white M3 CS to a new blue M3 CS within a few days, just because of the color? Well, why not, there have been more sensless decisions in human history.

Has it been confirmed that the new "dash" is to include the entire dash assembly or just the new instrument cluster (and iDrive 7.0)?

I just can't fathom the entire dash being updated. It would be virtually unprecedented in the world of BMW LCIs.

Would love if that was the case, though. I quite like the new dashes on the G05 and G20.

Probably unknown yet but I'd point to the 7 LCI and it just got the new live cockpit and not the new center console and shifter with start stop button similar the fresh 3 and X5.

I don't believe they'll change anything substantial on the dash.

So at this point my choice would be to take delivery in October assuming I do go with X3M this year. I'm guessing 2 months production to Seattle area delivery in Oct would line me up to be in between potential changes at August production. I'm still not totally convinced that anything will change but from what we know, should I care about idrive 6 vs 7? I'm pretty ambivalent to any gauge cluster screen changes.

Go look at the live cockpit changes from the 7 series LCI. Those are the changes coming in August. ID7 > ID 6

Also, FYI to anyone who says this is unprecedented. BMW has done iDrive updates mid model year before. Notably the 17F80. .

That's kind of what I'm thinking. If there is a tech upgrade and people find out about it, cars may sit on lots in Sept/Oct.

funny i was thinking this same exact combo, but wish it was a red leather instead. torn between AW and DG, would have preferred mineral white (wife had that with red leather in X6 and loved that combo).

except the people on forums like this are the minority, the majority of buyers will have NO clue as the dealers sure won't tell them!

Ya I wanted the same as my X5M Mugello Red Full Merino int and Alpine White ext but Muegello Red int isnt offered on X3M....they do have Fiona Red for X4 so perhaps they'll have it in the future for X3M? Or perhaps they're playing the exclusivity marketing deal....best second would have to be sahkir I suppose? Donnigton is what I was going to get on the X5M but defaulted to what I had before due to availability at the time; but Donnigton is sportier and fitting for the X3M imo...(a bit wordy)

They will NOT get the latest Dash. It will be the same as the F90 M5.
