How long did your rear tires last
As I was swapping to winter tires I realized my rears are almost done. Getting close to the wear bar. My car only has 17,000 km. (10500 miles)
The tires are continentals. It's not like I'm peeling from every red light but I enjoy spirited runs when I can. Is it normal to wear out this quickly?

I've seen continentals getting weird tapered wear after just one Track day on an Audi S3. It could be just tires. If you get new tires I will strongly recommend MPS4S. |

See the following thread. I posted my past experience with the Contis on page 2.

Yeah, the CSC3's seem to wear out super quick. Get the MPS4S when you replace them. They should perform better and last quite a bit longer.

Just had mine swapped out at 7500 miles, they had around 3mm left. I don’t thrash the car but all my driving is stop start country roads so never any cruising which is hard on the tyres. The continentals are very soft though, replaced with MPSS so hopefully they will last a bit longer.

I got 9,000 miles on my Continentals and I haven't tracked the car once. I'm on winter tires now but will get Michelins in the spring.

Abused (including 1 track day) stock michelins at 23000 miles now. Sill about 1mm above wear bar indicator thingy.

10-12,000 on the rears is normal for an M car. I am half way through my rear MPSS at 4600 miles. Even my rear wheel drive 335 would go through rears in less then 10,000. I drive my cars.

I am just past 12,000 miles and have tracked my contis once. They are pretty close to the edge of their usable tread wear.
I have noticed they went through a noticeable change around 9k miles and since then have felt “harder”. Not sure if that is the best way to describe it but since then anything past half throttle in first or second will break the rears loose and roast them, even in the complete dry. I think this “hardening” really helps contribute to reducing life of the tires from that point forward. Especially since it makes the car even more tail happy and a lot more fun to drive, which in turn makes you want to do it more often

The rears on my continentals were toast in about 6000 miles.
I guess I enjoy roundabouts more than I realize. Aggressive camber is a bitch.

10k miles and no track days on my Conti's and they are basically done. Like others, I noticed a change in the tire around 7,500 miles where they got really "hard" or "greasy" and lose traction in 1st and 2nd quite easily.

When your rear Conti's wear down, do you bite the bullet and replace all 4 with the Michelins, or just buy Conti rear replacements?.. Then, when this set wears out, the fronts will probably be ready to replace also, and you can do all 4.

Did anyone replace just their rears with Michelins and keep the conti fronts on until they wore out? If so, would recommend this or would recommend replacing all 4 together? Just curious, I'll probably end up just replacing all 4. Last edited by Blurbo311; 05-08-2019 at 01:47 PM.. |
