So my recently purchased X3 shows me this 3 Stooges symbol in the dash everytime I start the car (see attached pic). Even with the dozens of cars my family has owned over the years, including 6 BMWs, I've never seen this one. Time to break out the manual..........not there! BMW used to be good about enumerating every light and dashboard symbol, but I guess these new full LCDs are supposed to be self explanatory??

So, has anyone seen a complete listing of these or even just know what's up with those 3 Stooges?? Is the one in the center Moe or Curly??

I believe those are rear seat belt reminders. On older BMWs they would turn green or disappear as each person buckled in. Do you have something on the rear seats that might be confusing the weight sensors and make the car think someone is sitting in the rear seat?

They represent the hypothetical passengers in the back. Red icon means seatbelt not engaged, if one turns green, seatbelt on that passenger is buckled.

Unfortunately they aren't the three stooges. They are the Pep Boys- Manny, Moe and Jack.

Represents the three backseat passengers and whether they have their seat belts fastened.

They come on every time you start along with other warning lamps and then go out if no one is in the back seats

It is in the manual in the seat belt section

Rear seat belt nanny.....interesting! My jacket is laying back there, don't think that it would cause those to come on, but it does go off after 10-15 seconds. I wonder if they do change color after a passenger gets in....got to test that tonight!

Here's an image from the manual - as others have said, coded to come on every time engine is started. Re: the 3 stooges, guess the (l)eft one would be Larry, (m)iddle one would be Moe, and the (r)ight one would be "Rurly".
