Alarm Siren options

There are some posts on here about DIY alarm installation but nothing very recent and I'm wondering if there an optional place to install the siren without taking the wheel off? I noticed in the trunk (3 Sedan) that theres a compartment above the left wheel well tht contains the stereo amp. There's also an open ended connector in there which I'm assuming is part of the alarm prewiring. Does anyone know if this is the connector for the siren? Thanks.

um... no. That's the CD changer harness.

What good would the siren do inside the car?

Good question... I guess I was looking to deafen the thief once inside the car, since no one pays attention to sirens anyway

I'm actually just trying to find a way to install myself without taking the wheel off. My local dealer wants 665 for alarm and install. $355 for install alone!!!

Damn crooks!

What's the big deal about the wheel? It's a really simple install...

I installed the alarm without taking the wheel off. Just lift it up on the jack.

Eh, no jack or tools at the ready. But I'm gonna have to borrow some. The install seems so simple I just can't accept paying $350. Of course they'll probably charge me that much to activate too!

Go to an autoparts store. They will rent you a jack for $10 or so.
You will also need a stubby philips screwdriver, an 8mm socket and a rachet.

Thanks man! I'll definitely give that a shot. I think I read somewhere also that someone simply ran the front left tire up onto a ramp and that also gave them enough room with the rear tire...

How much did you get charged to activate BTW? If I may ask.

I did not activate it yet, but they quoted me $135

Nevermind the ramp, simply jacking up at the correct left mid-rear jack point is plenty sufficient to do the siren install.

I just got mine activated yesterday for about $130 (1 hr labor plus tax).

All they did was retrofit programing. You get the beep when you activate and deactivate the alarm and I believe the hood switch works after programing. They also did the software update while I was there.

If the stealerships quote you for more than 1 hour labor, walk away.

Yeah, MY dealership are crooks! I found another dealer a 45 minutes away that is going to charge me only 190 for both the INSTALL and ACTIVATION. That makes itworthwhile to even have them install as well.
