Hey guys,
This is a bit of a double post since I posted the same in the F15 section...but this is all going down next weekend and I'm super confused.

Here's the deal:

I have an '16 F15 at the end of a 3/36. This is my first BMW and first lease.
The lease was done in Sept, but extended as I've been waiting on the G05 on order. I currently have 39k miles on the original runflats.
I understand I will be responsible to have new tires on the vehicle at return *if* the current tread is below the cutoff. And have been told that it is VERY LIKELY with 39k I am above cutoff.

But when I posted on the other side many guys said they got a pass on buying tires bc they were leasing again. But my current CA says that just isn't the case..that the lease return folks are separate from him and he has no control over that. Also , for what it's worth, I'm turning lease in to a different dealer than it came from.

Can folks share their experiences in this process? Any strategies ?
And if they nail me for tires, Is there a certain less expensive tire option I should preemptively purchase?
Thanks

From what I researched and experienced, you are required to have all 4 tires of same brand on the car with same load, size and speed rating.
In order to not have to buy replacement tires you must have at least 2/32 thread depth.
If you are not passing inspection from what I understand CA can't do anything and you have to talk to finance department to see if they could do something.
The only time you might be able to ask CA for help if you didn't get inspected prior to return, they may look the other way.

He technically can't do anything...but be can do something, if he wants.

For example, he can get tires for you from the parts department at cost, or at least discounted. Or he can eat some of the cost of the tires from the margin on the new vehicle...

Go buy used tires on kijiji. Otherwise you will be dinged a good chunk of money. This is reason I get wear-tear option

It's 4/32, or 1/8" for the wear limit. I'm monitoring my wear carefully. Just rotated back to fronts at 12K miles as the rears had 2mm greater wear. If it looks like I'm going to hit the wear limit for turn in, I'm going to purchase a set of non run flats, change the tires and save the originals that still have enough tread to pass inspection. I'll change them back just before turn in, and i'll have a good set of non run flats to put on the next car. I did this with my 528 and it worked out well. I'm NOT going to buy a new set of tires for BMW to make up for the inferior wear run flats they provide as OEM.

What is crazy is 4/32 is basically worn out so if they take it back at 4/32 what is the difference vs 2/32 or 3/32 car still need tires and if they CPO and resell it will get new tires.

Go on ebay and you'll find some used tires with still good thread on them. BMW doesn't care if the tires are used when you return the car. As long as the tires are the same spec and have good tread life left. You would just need to email or fax BMW the invoice when you buy the tires.

My question exactly. We are getting close to the end of 3/30 lease and I have saved the OEM run-flats at limit, and my subsequent non-RFTs are pretty much done too.

I always help out my lease return clients. We often buy these cars from BMW to certify and have as used inventory. The client doesn't get charged and we keep a loyal happy client.

My front tires had no thread. I return my car to the same dealer where I got my new car. And they never charged me as they sold my car a week later with new front tires.
