Odd digital dashboard symbol

Day 3 of the M40i and loving iit.

Driving home tonight and heard an odd chirping sound, an image flashed up for a few seconds just above the M40i logo. It wasn’t the usual warning chime such as speed warning.

It was a red car with what looked like a straight red lines either side.

I can’t seem to find anything to confirm what it was ?

Frontal collision detection warning. It starts with a flash, then an audible tone and can trigger automated braking in the most severe cases.

Congrats on the new ride!

Thanks guys Google seemed to suggest something about approaching the car ahead too fast.

The car will also flashes this warning sign if you follow too closely to the car in front at highway speed (note to all NY and LA drivers) :

Pops up in the HUD if you’ve got it also. It’s part of the Active Guard package in the UK which is standard across the range.

The cameras in the windscreen detect close objects.

I am sure it had 2 red lines 1 each side too. I don’t remember being close to the car in front but I had just passed over a crossroads at 55 MPH in a 60 zone

I can’t see one with a car and two red lines, just a pedestrian one with them:

Found the answer

The noise and symbol are at 1:48 on this video but I don’t remember being close to anyone but suspect it picked up cars on the crossroads.

Welcome to automated safety, its far from perfect. I've had it flash or beep at me for seemingly no reason a number of times, and it engaged the brakes on me while I was exiting my local rotary once, again, for seemingly no reason.

At first I was happy to know it would automate braking to prevent an accident but after the rotary incident I wish I could disable it.

"Rotary, Roundabout, Traffic Circle" -- all synonymous.

If you haven't had this before, one of the more interesting aspects to me was that it's good at detecting when cars somewhat far ahead of you, suddenly stop. The system has alerted me to things before I noticed them several times. I haven't had any issues in roundabouts, I like this feature a lot.
