Hi everyone,

Having read a few cases of people pride and joy new car not being as ordered I have created a check list ahead of taking ownership of my new M40i on Wednesday.

Check list:

1. Pre check list comparing my order against the VIN details
2. Physical check list (walk through the car) with the dealer on Wednesday before taking ownership
3. Check the signed contract against originally agreed

Am curious what checks any of of you have done to make sure you are getting what you ordered and if I am missing anything?

My technique, which may apply only to US cars, is to make the dealership produce a printout of the "vehicle inquiry report". Once the car goes code 150, that's what the factory will build. It's the authoritative list of the build. Mistakes after this point do happen, but are rare.

This is crucially important for US buyers who pick up on European Delivery. But I also used it to make sure both my G01s were exactly the way I wanted them even though G01s cannot be delivered in Munich for US buyers.
