As requested - Pics of mudflaps on 2018 m40i
Hey all!
I stated in another post that I had installed the standard mudflaps onto my G01 2018 X3 m40i and they requested more pictures. Rather than be off-topic in that post, I created a new one here. https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1556515 Check out that link to see my winter 18" rims and tire combo! The mudflap PN I used for $141 on ebay: Front PN is 82162410525 Rear PN is 82162410526. $141 on ebay. There were a LOT of requests for pictures of the mud flaps. Hopefully all these will satisfy all the angles requested! When originally installed (Summer rims) We know they are not spec'd for the G01. On the front flaps, there is a 0.200" gap between flap and car. On the back, flush. To me, this gap is only noticeable when I measured it. When people say it does not fit...I intrepret that as don't even try! In no way do I classify these flaps as not fitting. Since the front and rear are different, I took pictures of both. FRONT PICTURES REAR PICTURES Yup...dirty car. There, I said it! Paul Last edited by Jeepersjoey; 11-22-2018 at 07:06 AM.. |

Thanks for posting. We have two $50 coupons from BMW and haven’t seen anything we want. Since the fronts and reads are sold separately for $80 each we may use the coupons to buy a set of these!

Brilliant pictures and really useful info on whether these flaps can be made to fit the G01 MSport. I have only one word of warning purely so as to offer up my own experience. I did a very similar fit on my F25 MSport. A month or so after fitting, I did a quick check whilst washing the car to ensure all were still attached properly. What I found was, because they are not an exact fit, and also because the MSport has painted wheel arches, (unlike the other models) that they had obviously been affected by the wind and had been moving. This in turn, combined with grit and road salt, had started to rub away at the paint where the mud-flap touched it. Had I not caught it in time I think all the paint would have been rubbed off within a few months of driving. I applied some clear tape (I guess clear-bra material would be better) between the flap and the paintwork to prevent further damage. Again, not taking anything away from this fantastic post, (and will probably do the same on my new G01) but just wanted to warn fellow owners of my experience and save any heartbreak.

Thanks for posting up pictures and sharing! Great detail here.
This matches my experience when doing a dry fit of these flaps on 30i and M40i models at my dealer. On a 30i without M-sport, the fit is 100% perfect. On an M40i or 30i with M-sport, the mounting works fine and the flaps fit in terms of general shape, but they do not fit cleanly up against the wheel arches and body due to the different surface shape of the arches. I was not comfortable with the fit and interface where they meet the wheel arches and body, or the fact that the VHB tape wasn't going to do its intended job. So I passed on buying the flaps. I fully expect other folks will be totally OK with the fit though. The main purpose of VHB tape on installs like this is to prevent dirt/grit/etc from getting between the flap and the paint and rubbing the paint off. On older vehicles, I have taken off body parts that weren't properly sealed/taped, and have seen the result of this. It's definitely something to keep in mind. Any add-on part that is up against paint really needs to be sealed, or separated, or rendered immovable otherwise it will wear off the paint. Whether or not this is a major problem depends on the parts involved, the paint, the materials, etc. I'd be more concerned on metal body parts and less concerned on plastic parts (the case here). In my case, I wasn't comfortable with the fit and I knew if I put them on and then changed my mind later, there would probably be paint damage. So I think the bottom line is that if you decide to put these flaps on a 30i with M-sport or an M40i, be 100% committed, because after a few months, you really won't be able to remove the flaps without seeing paint damage in that area. Putting paint protection film under the flaps may alleviate the issue, but now we're getting a little bit nuts.... |

Thanks for posting OP! Really appreciate all the pics and looks like just as you stated, the fit is basically 99% spot on. Nothing that a few passes with a dremel grinding wheel on the flaps themselves won’t fix

Reviving an old thread. Jeepersjoey, have you kept an eye on the mud flaps to see if they are damaging the paint as they move and shimmy as you drive?
Thanks

I just discovered this request today.
I looked at the car and there is no paint issues that I see. Still looks exactly like I show in the original pics! Although I now have 15mm spacers, the mudflaps are doing a great job of keeping the area behind them clean. No noticeable spray in the past year and 21k miles. Glad I did it! I do wish that I could find a hood wind deflector. I have 3m protectant on the hood and there are lots of little cuts in it. Colorado has the worst rock truck drivers that are dropping rocks all the time. Heck, the day I moved here the windshield cracked with a rock just a mile from my house. Paul |
