Changing rear tire size from 255/35/18

I have a 335xi and am changing from run-flats to non RFT all seasons. My question is do I need to change to the exact same tire sizes 225/40/18 front & 255/35/18 rear, or can I put 225/40/18 all around? I know the rear wheels are 18 x 8.5 with 18 x 8 in the front. The only reason I'm asking is cause whe I look up tires for my car Im getting a notification that I CAN use 225/40's. Thanks for any help.

I can't see why you couldn't use 225/40 all around.

Front options are 225/40R18 or 235/40R18. Rear options are 225/40R18, 235/40R18 or 255/35R18.

Thanks for the responses. And Gary, forgive my lack of knowledge, but how does that work if the rear wheel is 18 x 8.5 as opposed to 18 x 8 in the front? And is there any benefit to keeping the wider tires in the back on an AWD?
