Amazing Sound My F90 Makes

https://youtu.be/glS0pOnNjZI

My new F90 M5 makes really weird, loud and embarrassing air leaking type of sound at low speed.
It's the kind of sound when huge bus or trucks make when they stop and go.
My dealership is investigating but I was wondering if anyone else has this issue.

You can hear noise at:
0:02, 0:16, 0:34. 1:06, 1:17

Does it happen when you lift off the gas pedal? Blow off valve?

Or is your massage seat on?

It's random. Gas pedal down or lifted. At low speed 15-30mph. Maybe I just can't hear anymore at higher speed.

I wasn't using massage seat.

Exactly. That's what I was saying and why it sounds embarrassing to have that sound from M5.

Not normal... Maybe creaking suspension issue?

UPDATE

I went in to service yesterday to test drive together with service person.
We both did hear the sound and he confirmed the sound.
What's funny is that the location of sound moves around.

They will start investigating where it is coming from.

Meanwhile, I'm stuck with loaner car and cannot drive my new M5 and times ticking. Sucks.

Will keep you guys posted here.

So having watched your video a few times...

The day I got my car back from the shop (PPF/Window Tint/Paint Correction) 5 days in the shop total.

I heard what seems to be the same sound. At first with the windows up I thought it was the tire rubbing against epoxy garage paint but I could hear it over and over usually at low speeds and coming to a stop.

With the windows down I could hear it but not very consistent. If the car was throwing any warning lights I would have been more cautious. Since I didn't have my car for a few days I pushed it pretty hard for a couple hours and the sound went away.

FYI, the same day my pedestrian sensor failed and the car was throwing an error message for a couple days. This seems to have automatically correct itself and I am assuming the two issues are independent of each other.

Sorry to hear you heard the same(or similar) sound. Does it still happen? Mine happens consistently especially when outside temperature is low and after the car has cooled down for a while. It makes the sound for around 10 minutes and goes away.

Mine was louder with windows down.

By the way, good to see a F90 owner from Korea! What color do you have?

Sing. Grey Metallic here.
Donny was my first choice before someone else took delivery first.
In Korea, BMW ships a bunch of cars and we purchase inventory instead of making custom orders. We pretty much get the cars fully loaded...I think night vision and ceramic brakes are the only two options that don't come standard.

I don't hear the sound anymore. Hopefully its not a big issue for you either.

This is my first BMW. I don't care what other people say. The car is perfect!

Korea is the same story as Brazil. We purchase the inventory that comes. An M5 here from the get go is 195k usd (including road taxes and tag plates). I bought mine used with 2k miles and saved a good deal.

In Brazil only dealers are allowed to select specs, not individual customers. Bizarre policies. Never the less, love every second of driving the beast. Couldn't care less about the rest.

Any cool type of loaner? Last time I was in, my salesman gave me a X3 M4.0. Was a riot to rip around, crackling exhaust, etc. No M5, but fun...

I've tried X4 30i, X6 35i, 640i GT and I hated all of them.
640i GT was a very nice car but boring. (I mean what car can NOT be boring if you're coming from F90 ;p)

Luckily, I ended up getting an 2019 X5 (G05) which at least keeps me happy as a father. And the fact that it is brand new model and lots of actual purchasers are waiting for their car.

But I miss my F90 so much.

I'll keep thread updated with how it goes.

Update:

Well actually no meaningful update.
Dealership(or service) told me that they were able to reproduce the sound but not able to tell where exactly the sound is coming from and not frequent enough. So there nothing they can do about it and told me to take the car and bring it back when I hear the sound again. Also mentioned BMW is not aware of this issue and never heard this kind of noise from the car before.

Funny because I heard the sound half of the time when I was driving. Maybe where the dealership is located is noisy downtown area that prevent from hearing this noise. But it is pretty loud from the neighborhood areas. Now I should try to keep record every time I start the engine and this is quite stressful.
All I want is to drive my new M5 without any worries.

Will keep this thread updated.

Thanks.

I have the same exact problem with scratching/swooshing sound. And I also had the pedestrian failure also with error message. By the time I got car to dealer, pedestrian problem disappeared. Dealer said it left a small trace of problem and they updated software. I am chasing the swooshing air sound, couldn't get car to make sound at dealer. Nothing they could do. Please post the swooshing sound cause and cure if found, thanks.

I also have this problem. Problem with mine is that it is very intermitten, somedays it will make sound and other days..nothing. It makes it very hard to record this. Took it to dealer, couldn't reproduce sound and nothing done. I am like you, just want to enjoy my car without this "embarrasing" swoosh. Please update if you find anything. on another note, I see that we both have alpine white M5s, maybe its a white car thing...hmmmmmm

I took my car back home yesterday and kept it in my garage overnight. I drove my M5 today late afternoon and... of course it makes the noise and this time even louder and worse.

I'm going to take it to dealership again.

Are you guys hearing the exact same sound from your M5?
