2018 BMW X3 - Temprature Alert

HI Everyone - I have 2018 BMW X3 purchased back in April 2018. I live in Philadelphia , USA where now a days weather is pretty cold. Recently I have noticed my car started giving me alerts on outside weather temperature which it wasn't giving in summer time frame. I am wondering if this is normal or something went wrong with one of car sensors due to recent car wash and now car has started giving these alerts.

Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome to the bummer family!!

This alert occurs on all bmws. It indicates when the temperature is lower than 37 degrees Fahrenheit. At this temperature, black ice may still be present on the road way so BMW wants their drivers to be aware of driving conditions.

It actually alerts you when the temp is NOT at 32 Deg Fahrenheit (or Celsius equivalent), but rather at 34 I think - this is because of possible wind chill or other conditions that can cause black ice to form on roads even if its technically not at "freezing point" yet (32 deg).

37 degrees - every BMW I've had does this. Startles a bit bit until used to it.

You never get used to it. I'll tell you why....

When the car is eventually out of warranty like my 2011 e90 you think something broke and it could cost $$$$ to fix .

Not a problem at all for use here though (yet).

In the UK, for some reason, the majority tend to use centigrade (Celsius) as our thermal reference. Our weather reports and forecasts are all °C, so it seems someone, somewhere, at sometime made a decision which influenced us.

3degC air temp will more than likely have ground temp lower than this and the risk of frost or ice forming on surfaces (particularly cold ones) hence the warning at this temperature
