B58TU1 updated engine boosts horespower to 388.

B58TU1 (TU = technical update)

https://www.bimmertoday.de/2018/10/3...bringt-388-ps/

Scheduled to be offered in two versions, one is 340-horse version dubbed ML for middle power level, while the other 374-to-388-horsepower variant is referred to as OL for upper level, and both fall under the broader designation of B58TU1.

The higher output engine will be offered in NA this time.
For Europe it will remain the same output with lower fuel consumption and emissions...

it's intended for the M340i and M Performance models not the X5 unless there's an X5 M40i

Anything is possible. I'd hope one would be offered for the actual M Performance models like my M40i, but that hasn't happened yet.

I would venture to say that when the 50i moves to M50i the 40i will receive the B58TU.

Personally, I doubt it. the 50i gets a new engine in MY2020. Don't think the 40i will change as well.

The B58 has already been out for three years. The technical update will eventually trickle down to all the 40i models. The G05 will receive the updated engine. It is not a matter of if, but when?

The article that I posted via the BMW Car Club of America states that the TU was primarily performed for emission reasons.

Nope.

I think bmw will give the new b58tu engine to G05 the same time they update 50i.
