Considering a larger SUV
I've been enjoying my X3 M40i for a while now and it's been great. after seeing the new X5 in person I'm considering ordering one. If I go that route it would be a X5 50i with the DHP (dynamic handling package) once I confirm the ride with a few test drives. Is anyone else considering moving to a larger SUV?

One thing is, from a "luxury feel" perspective, the X5 is nicer than the X3... sort of like the 3 series and the 5 series. The infotainment stack buttons are nicer on the X5, you can get multi contour seats, etc. its not just "bigger" its a step up in the luxury department by design as well. With that being said, the X3 M40 is a lot more nimble from our short test drive, and we only have 1 (grown) child so never needed the size of the X5 in the first place. We got it simply because it was my wifes dream vehicle. Now that she has had it, even though it would be a better deal for us to keep the X5 (buy off lease) from a financial perspective (and it was ordered so we got every options she wanted... its basically loaded), she is pushing me to get the X3. Im a bit concerned about the reports of the infotainment stack dimming with tinted windows though.... we WILL be tinting the front windows and that would @!@#$@ me off. You are also looking at probably 20k more... Loaded X3 M40i is around 65-70 (if you tick all the boxes, about 70) MSRP, while the X5 would be around 90 in the 50i guise. |

adding to my original post: I also wanted more of a true luxury vehcile. the M40i is great don't get me wrong. the X5 is simply much nicer inside. I drive a lot so the interiors comfort and features are a big part of vehicle shopping for me. I also like something that can have a sporty character whether that's it's main goal or a side benefit. I'm not a fan of the Veransca leather used in my X3 or the lack of a true high end audio system. Sometimes it's the little things like those that make enjoying a car for daily driving better.

Next year true x5 M50i but... for 15k more you can buy the x5M... so why not.
Honestly I bought this x3 M40i because the leg room was identical to the f15 or within a small margin. X5 was only gaining width and trunk space. The current x3 is as big as the original x5 it seems. |

Nope, unless my gf and I decide to adopt 3+ kids (which I'm sure isn't even possible), no reason to.

I was also toying with the idea of getting the New 2019 X5....but It's a lot of dough at the end of the day. My equipped one was about $14,000 more than my 2019 X3 30i. I seriously considered the 2018 X5 as well....and almost got one. But even with the discounts they were giving, the delta between the 2019 x3 and 2018 X5 was enough for me to make a solid decision on the X3. Even if the "feel" of the X5 is more luxurious inside, the drive, exterior and tech of the X3 really brought it home for me. I realize the OP was talking about the 2019 X5, just sharing my story

I have an X5 loaner ride now, though it's a lower spec model...the interior is not that nice, and the "wood grain" is plastic and ugly. That being said, it feels bigger and has worse visibility than the X3 M40i. I bet a highly optioned one with ehe M Sport trim would be solid though...although for that price you can easily get the X3M.

After 20 months of very satisfied ownership and only 9400 miles, we just traded our 2017 X1 for a 2019 X3. There wasn't any great need to - More of a want to situation. Slightly larger interior dimensions, newer/better tech and a general more upscale feel inside and out. The ride and handling is more to our liking too.

I would say the X3 seems better built this gen then previous gens. It also seems like they upped the scale a little bit and the new X3's are more on par with the base 5 series..
However as far as sound the X3's are louder then an x5 and 5 Series. |

If you really want a larger SUV, I believe they are, or soon about to start taking pre-order deposits on the X7.

The M50i will be very close in price to a X5M so say the rumors. I'd rather go for an X5M at that point. The new G05 X5 MY19 is very nice compared to the outgoing F15 which is what your loaner likely was. Most dealers aren't going to use a brand new refreshed model, which is in high demand for a loaner unless I'm mistaken. I highly recommend checking the new ones out! I don't need a larger SUV, I want one. The X7 isn't worth it to me. I'm also considering a Cayenne but a decently optioned one runs well over $100K, unlike the 50i which I have fully optioned how I like for under that. |
