Please decipher code

Friends, I was going over a build sheet for a car I am looking at and the following was listed: 05AP - decoding for no-dazzle high beam.
Translation, please?
Cheers.

BMW turns off the anti-dazzle headlights in the US (they can be coded on once you get the vehicle)

Thanks, but what is the difference between dazzle vs. anti-dazzle. I have never heard this distinction.
Cheers.

Anti-dazzle is the name BMW gives them - there isn't a "dazzle" headlight

Here's a video showing how they work:

Curious what the reasoning is for coding them off in the US? If you know or care to guess.

Much obliged for the vid. Very clever. So does the car come equipped with this function as default, and the decoding means that it is disabled? And if so, can this be "recoded" to restore that function. If so, do you just keep your high beams on all the time, and let the car brain do its thing?
We have come a long ways since the metal foot button to the left of the clutch or brake that controlled the high beams.

Better yet, what is a good coder that won't break the bank? How much do they normally run? Do they do other things like diagnose/pull DTC?

If you have options 552 and 5AC for High Beam Assist and Adaptive LED Headlights, you have the necessary hardware

Decoding in this case means they are disabled - you can code them to enable them. There is a button on the end of the turn signal stalk (by the BC button) to turn the anti-dazzle on/off (this turns on/off high beam assistant if you don't have the anti-dazzle coded)

When they are off, you get the "basic" adaptive which swivels the lights but doesn't do the anti-dazzle stuff

The decoding means these adaptive headlights will be disabled on your car because you are in the USA and they are not legal there. However NHSTA has a rule making in progress to make them legal.

https://www.regulations.gov/document...RDOC_0001-2008

You can go to the site and comment that you want them made legal.

You reenable them by using one of the coding software products available for BMW's. It's not likely you dealer will do it for you because these kinds of headlights are not legal in the USA.

my previous x4 had automatic high beam, it was distinctly on or off with sudden reach or retreat of beam length. the new x4 has anti dazzle decoded and when you turn on the automatic headlight feature it instantly goes high beam once in the clear, but when it goes to lower it first tilts the high beam down than disengages to low beam. it's subtle compared to the previous one but I do look forward to full anti dazzle feature and if I knew a local coder who had a good reputation and it was a reasonable price I would have it turned on now.

Trust me, be careful what you wish for. When I use this (and I used it often) it's bloody hypnotising. When you're driving down country lanes with intermittent oncoming and in front traffic the way that beam morphs and little bits turn on and off, it can be really distracting. God only knows what it looks like to external observer.

Cool tech, but I can understand why DOT a bit apprehensive.

I wonder how the car determines if the conditions are foggy. High beams and fog don't mix.

You don't turn it on when it's foggy
