New 3 series i-drive

I was considering moving to the G30 early next year, but with the new 3 series interior, I am wondering will the G30 benefit from a upgrade to the one in the new 3 series specially the cockpit section i.e. the dials. is this likely to end up in the 5 series and do I have to wait for the face lift
I really like the 3 series interior, how the i-drive screen is connected to the dial section, and small details like the Start button moved to the center console ...
a true dilemma I guess do I wait or not.
Any one aware of any g30 updates and when.

Yes, the G30 interior will get an interior makeover albeit in small doses and never to the same extent. The shifter will get the update no doubt.

My guess ( and it just a personal guess) is that loci might included idrive 7 along with the new instrument cluster. I would expect laser lights to show up as an option aswell.
Perhaps a new colour or two maybe?

Who knows

I much prefer the interior, digital instrumentation, iDrive and general cabin ambience of my G30 over the new 3-Series G20. The interior quality of the 5-Series has historically been better than that found in the 3-Series and this should not be an exception this time around.

I do not like the placement of the engine start/stop button in the center console. I do not care for the CD/DVD in-dash player delete. Do not care for Crystal shift knobs or weirdly laid out digital speedo and tach.

Maybe the only advantage in the newer cabins is iDrive 7 and that's about it.

Nothing wrong with the current shifter.

The newer console looks busy with too many buttons and the shifter looks more Toyota to me...

You don't have your priorities clearly defined. What is it most important to you out of this purchase? Luxury ride quality or razor sharp handling? The 3er will always be the better handler while the 5er will pamper you with a smooth, superbly controlled ride wrapped up in a luxurious and quiet cabin.

Don't base your car purchase on electronic gizmos and whether you have the latest and greatest dash and center console. There so much more to consider here....

I can't stand the new gauge design so I'm perfectly happy with the soon to be mine (hurry up!) 2019 M550i...at least the first month of waiting went by fairly quick.

Agreed. New gauges look odd. But I might put up with that on an M3 Touring...

Just my guess but since the G11 is due for the LCI update first and the interior of the G30 barrows heavily from the G11, we will get the answer when the G11 update comes out next year.

True, G11 is due for LCI very soon as car was introduced back in 2016.

Should have a 2020 LCI which I am sure will get the new shifter, gauges, and iDrive 7.0. Among that other options will probably be remote engine start (possibly) as well as laser-light headlights.

If I opt for the G30 this will be my 4th 5 series coming from the E39, always come around the design within the 2nd year the new model was out, but this time around I am simply finding the G30 a very doll looking even the M sport, exterior and Interior also, so you can say the design is a big factor since this will be my daily drive, be looking at it day in day out! I agree with you historically the 5 series quality was always way ahead of the 3 series, for the sporty drive and handling the 5 does the job for me as I have a 911 to take care of my driving pleasures.
The new grand 6 Series not an option since this the new 5 GT, hence I am waiting to see how close/ improved the 3 series in comparison to the 5 quality wise, because design wise the 3 series works for me. Maybe coming around liking the G30 is simply taking longer this time around, but one thing for sure the F10 was a good big step away from the E60, not the case with the G30 apart from the Tech stuff when compared to the F10.

Out of curiosity I googled G11 LCI. Came across a blog with pictures of the interior of the LCI G11.

Looks like they're working on getting iDrive 7 in there from what I can see.

I test drove an X5 the other day with iDrive 7.0 and the new dials. In my opinion, its a good update, but not one that needs to be truly sought after. iDrive 6.0 has a nicer home screen, but 7.0 does have the over the air update which could be useful in purchasing over leasing, as well as remote start. The gauges is a love it or hate it thing. Personally, I dislike it as the backwards tachometer is weird, and the shape just annoys my OCD weirdly. While the gauges finally offer maps support, its nothing as revolutionary as the Audi Virtual Cockpit, and you can get maps in the current 5er gauges, you just need to turn it off in the HUD settings. While I disliked the gauges, and thought iDrive 7.0 was a moderate update, you make think differently, so I would definitely say go sit in a new X5 to see if you really want/like the technology.
