Over the Air map update- it's real!

Hi all

Just had the below message pop up which was a pleasant surprise... so it would appear that ota map updates are actually functional and do exist! ... in the UK at least...

Got this a few days ago here in the states as well. But I really only use CarPlay soooo...

(not looking to get in a CarPlay debate here, people)

Nice! My car has been in the shop getting PPF put on, but I'll have to check if there was an update when I pick it up this afternoon.

my car came with 2018-1 back in the summer. Just the other day got the 2018-3 OTA update. In Canada here (west coast).

My late 2016 340i used to get OTA map updates, so I'd hope the X3 does too!

Evo Europe 2018-4 came out last week on the download manager so maybe the Auto update is coinciding with that?

When I got mine in May and it was on 2017-4 so this is the fourth USB update in 5 months, seems a lot

Mine popped up the message the other day when I was driving, so all maps are now up to date.

frequent updates are probably better as it will be smaller each time.

Remember that OTA updates are only for a certain area you're driving in. If you want the full map update you have to download it from the BMW Connectedrive portal and put it on a USB stick (>64gb).

I am in Regina, Saskatchewan and I have not received any map update since I bought new X3 in August 2018. Hope we also get this soon.

A couple of months ago, I got an update to 2018-1 (west coast). Someone in Maine then said he got the same 2018-1 update (presumably for his region 13).

For me - it wouldn't download the update. I'd get the alert that the map update was available, and I'd select "Use Now" but the map wouldn't download and install.

I was a January 2018 delivery and there was an upgraded needed at the dealership before I would see things like Remote 3D View. I just got that done today at the dealership and the maps should be working properly after today.

I had the same issue in my 2 series and was advised to download the update that was 23gb so not very OTA friendly
