I’ve only had it when the engine is cold, so just assumed it was restricting power until the oil had got round the engine??
As said, it only lasts for a few seconds

I have it if I even remotely put my foot down (and I mean a minute amount) when the car has just started ... sometimes it has come up when warm but just started.
I guess it is to protect the engine just for a few seconds to allow the oil to circulate a tiny bit. |

This happens to me on the odd occasion, always when starting from cold. I have the ppf model.

Could it also be connected to that the fuel pump has not built up the pressure just yet?
When unlocking my car, I can hear the compressor building up the fuel pressure, but if leaving the car unlocked, and then getting back in and starting up, I guess it will take a few seconds to get full pressure.

On the X3 I only get this message when I start the car cold and try to leave in a hurry.
On the M2C this message pops up on just about every cold start, before the car has even moved!

The manual for my X3 which has just left the assembly plant says power will be restricted for 30 seconds after startup.

That figures with my experience. Frustrating when fully warm and only left for, say, 15 minutes ... I want to get in and put my foot down. It just says 'Naughty' ... wait ! Lol

Guys its due to the new emission limits that finally limit possibly hazardous emissions (not CO2!) on all possible real driving situations not just the easy one on the testbench with low power demand on the test start.
When emission control systems for example need time to heat up for optimum conversion power will be restricted. Down side of a combustion engine, when you want to have the kick immediatly after getting in the car there will be an X3 option soon. Last edited by Ge0rge; 10-03-2019 at 01:54 PM.. |
