Which Winter Tyres

I’ve got a set of lightly used 20” 695 wheels coming soon and will use them as my winter wheel & tyre combo as the current 21” have a non-exsistant range of winter tyres.

I’m debating which to go for;

Pirelli Scorpion Winter - seems decent in the tests circa £900 fitted.

Michelin Lattitude Alpine - they are mainly in smaller sizes and worried they may not be a good tyre model, that said Michelin my favourite tyre manufacturer of tyres, £1000 fitted but offering £100 cash back.

Others include Nokian which I think are good, but the difference is negligible between these and the above.

Any comments welcome.

I would go for the Continental WinterContact TS 850P, they have won virtually every winter tyre test for the last couple of years!

And as a long time Nokian fan, I vote for Nokian. Who also seems to win every year. ;-)

I am putting in work to build a winter set with Nokian r3 suv.

I've been faithful to blizzaks but time for a change

Apologies for jumping in with my own question, but it is related to the thread.

My M40d is on 21" 718M rims. I'm thinking that I'd get a good choice of winter tyres if I got a set of 19" rims. At this stage, I'm not sure whether to get BMW rims or an aftermarket brand (they'd only be for winter use).

If I do go for a set of 19" rims does anyone know what tyre width and profiles I should choose?

You may want to look at the tyre options available - not much in that size.

I went with the Bridgetsone's - now looks like they have stopped making them!

Yep, very little choice in that size, only 3 that I can see and they're all run flats! The bridgestones are still on Oponeo:

Far more choice on the 20's!

Probably you can live with 235 with the same profile, instead of 245. More choices, and usually better with narrower tires for winter conditions.

Thanks. I had looked at these sizes and saw it was an option. There are far more options!

Just a bit worried the BMW recommendation is 245 - but guessing its not too much of a change. Just hope BMW didn't kick off if car was in the garage!

Don't worry.
Others here are running that size.

Circumference is 1.4% smaller. Should be fine.

Thanks.

My wheel size is 19" x 8" wide x ET30. So 1.4% difference.

Didn't realise others use this size - good to know!

Just make sure that the tire you get got at least the necessary load index, and that the tire and rim combo are okay in these widths. 8" rim and 235 tire sounds like no problem though.
