Issues with Carplay

I have a January build 2018 M40i with CarPlay. When the car was new I was running IOS 11.something and the system worked great.

Sometime in a later iOS 11 update, contacts appeared chopped in the gauge cluster. It drops the first and last letter. For example, a contact like “Mary’s Cell” displays as “ary’s Cel”

A few weeks ago I switched to an iPhone XS with IOS 12. No changes to function were noted. Same contact display issue. Deleting and reconnecting made no difference.

I upgraded to IOS 12.0.1 this week and now the text message to voice feature is broken entirely.

Any thoughts? Anyone else having these issues? Do I need a software update on the BMW?

Garage List
I'd have dealer apply new firmware (under warranty). Over the air updates are only minor nav updates. I have April build and have no issues.

I had car play in my 2018 and never experienced those issues. In that time I also upgraded my phone and iOS version. The one issue I continued to have though was that the music source would switch to car play anytime I went into car play. It is really annoying every time you get a text message the system switched sources. So far with my 2019, that issue has been resolved I suppose with newer firmware from BMW. You probably need them to update your firmware.

Thanks. Does BMW still offer downloads of firmware for usb flash or does it need to be done at dealer?

They did in previous years but I haven’t seen anything released for the g01 or the f48 I had for almost 3 years.

I also have a January build w/CarPlay and XS running the latest public iOS. No issues here.

Before going to the dealer, I’d recommend pairing up a different iPhone to see if it has the same issue.
