Are Wheel Locks a Good Idea?
New to the forum, so I hope this is the correct place for this question.
Took delivery of a 2019 Alpine White X3 M40i. A lot to learn. It has the 21” wheels with runflats, no spare. My buddy said I should put the lug nut wheel locks on for some extra insurance. Are they a good idea as a deterent or just a waste of money? If yes, does anyone know the BMW part number for the item? Last edited by Radar314; 10-28-2018 at 11:06 AM.. |

They were included on my order: standard equipment but still paid €13 for them(?). I guess they don’t do any harm and if you’ve got nice rims it’s worth it to put them on there. Part Number on my list for them is 2PA.

I've always had locks on all my vehicles. I keep one in the garage and 1 in the armrest. Haven't lost one yet!
Also, you shouldn't have to buy a set (~$60CAD) as they should be dealer supplied at delivery.

Just checked the vehicle, no locks. I also checked the BMW site where you can order all options, no listing for wheel locks.

Give your dealer a ring tomorrow. (a) he should have them in stock and (b) ask why they weren't included in the purchase

They are all over ebay for about 50% off dealer price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-OEM-Whe...RQh:rk:11:pf:0
Part Number 36-13-6-792-851 Well worth the money IMHO |

There appears to be two part numbers.
One is a spline type with a pin in the center. 16136786419 The other is a flower looking groove cut into the top of the nut. 36136792851 I was at the bmw dealer and there was a 2019 on the floor. It had factory wheel locks on the build sheet. They were the spline type with the pin. The big difference is that the spline type fits within the lug nut diameter, while the flower cut design requires that the adapter to remove the lug nut fits over the head of the nut. Update: I think the 851 part may be a M14 size and the 419 is a M12 size. This is a problem. Could be there are some errors in ebay listings. Caution to all that there may be a problem here. I ordered a 815 pn set. I guess I should have taken one out and measured it. Looks like the 851 is correct. Parts should arrive Monday, Nov 5th. Last edited by Radar314; 11-01-2018 at 12:42 PM.. The 851 ending part number showed up today and fit perfectly. They are metric M14 bolt size. Just $34 on ebay.
Thanks for the help with guiding me to the correct part. Now, just have to figure out how to keep it in non ESS mode. Not happy about remembering to have to press the foolish button every time. |
