I've called my M40i Darth Vader

Because it looks and acts bad ass like Darth Vader

So went to the car showroom on Friday and there it was all tucked away in the handover bay. After 2 hours of signing and talking we were able to drive away in our new 2019 X3 M40i.
Was it worth the 6 month month wait YES YES YES.
It is light and day from our XC60 D4, those car guides that put it in the same class are wrong they are 2 very different cars.
I know you will say 4 cylinder diesel vs 6 cylinder petrol etc but its just the way they are designed and put together there is something missing from the Volvo.

Any how only done 90 miles so far and so much to get used to before towing the caravan so will up date with results on that.

Its so bad I can't stop looking at it

typical British weather I'm afraid drove home and there its sat, don't want to get it too dirty before detail.
Yours looks great hope it drives as good as it looks.
Mine is definitely quieter than BMWs demo I had back in May, no pops and bangs it seems more refined. Thats maybe because the Demo was thrashed and had loosened some what.
Any way I'll get some pics as soon as.

No pops and bangs yet but I'm only 250 miles in and have only ventured above 4k very briefly once.
Exhaust needs some miles to bed in anyway so I'm sure it will get louder, but right now it's exactly as you said, smooth and refined.

That's great news, congrats on new car, agree with you on Volvo, drove a XC60 D5 virtually back to back with a X3 (30D) last December, the only thing they made premium about Volvo was the price, M40i was under £3k more than a T5 I was considering ordering

If you've got the pops and bangs they will appear in Sport Plus mode when you lift the throttle even around 20-30mph, try with the window open, you won't get them at all in Comfort mode

Does yours still have the high revs for first 20 seconds or start on start up? Stays around 1200rpm and then drops back down?

Hi, yes it starts with high revs and dies down, sounds lovely, not tried it in sport modes yet, as said just took it home and left it, weather grotty and I'm trying to get to grips with the tech side of things. Going out tomorrow for a play.

Pics soon.

You got some willpower there not to just dive in but sensible

Glad they haven't changed the exhaust note, car was frosty this morning so I started up and got straight out to clear the windows and it is quite loud for that first 20 seconds, shows how well insulated you are inside

Once that quells down all you can hear is a slight lovely burble from exhaust, engine is near silent from outside on tick over

Enjoy the drive today

I’m thinking what I should call mine....? It’s a grunt monster - pulls so effortlessly. 680Nm of torque!!! Same as an F10 M5. Lovely!

I have always named my cars with a common name of a person who might drive the car from the country it's from. With a lot of stereotypes. But now it will be a German car built in South Africa, so would it be Klaus (Dr. Brinkmann) or something with Afrikaans connection... maybe Willem van Zyl..?

Will wait for the registration number to be allocated, to perhaps get some inspiration.

My F31 is named Helmut, and my Saab 9-3 Aero was named Lance.

I like your thinking and logic, although I’m thinking more along the lines of either a mythical beast or some sort of superhero (goody or baddy) character.
