2019 X3 M40i Brakes

So I picked up my 2019 X3 M40i about 2 weeks ago and now have been experiencing a lot more travel in my brakes from when I picked it up. I researched and BMW has a recall on the brakes for too much travel due to bad fluid or bad rear pads. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm taking it in today but wanted to know if anyone has had it fixed?

I've had mine for about 2 weeks as well, but haven't had any issues with the brakes. I don't see any recalls for mine when I checked the website. Is that info posted somewhere else?

My X3 M40i was recalled for a rear brake issues. I brought it into the dealer and had the fix done. I'm don't know exactly what was fixed but I don't think it involved pads.

You can check to see if your car is in the recall here:

https://www.bmwusa.com/safety-and-emission-recalls.html

Just put in your VIN.

But it seems like you would have gotten a snail mail notice by now if it was in the recall.

Took it into dealer and my guy said they were fine. It still think they feel "soft" but we'll see. There is no recall on my build but I feel the same issue as described in the article I read. When I first picked up the travel in the brake was much shorter for braking then it is now. Time will tell. Thanks!

I picked up my 19 X3 M40i two weeks and I actually feel exactly the same way. Especially braking to a completely stop in low speed I feel the brake is really soft.

The number one reason BBKs will feel softer, certainly at low mileage as yours, is likely glazing or, at the very least, improper bedding. If you have not smoked them red-hot in 10 braking cycles, usually once per year, the metal surface does not crystallize. On Brembo kits it is easy (stock Zimmerman for X3 etc not really possible). For every couple of thousands of kms of 'soft driving' one must take the car out and red hot the brakes- hence the known blue colour as effect.

When doing that, my Brembos lasted boringly forever, replacing a front set at 100,000 kms and 29.1 vs min 28mm due to sagittal rust (after inspection turned out superficial). Machined the rear, rust gone, they will last at least to 160,000 kms and on my 5th year of ownership!

With track events, what should need replacing, is pads, and brake fuel.

Outside brake event, fluid every 2 years and, driving relative, regular bedding cycles. BBKs NEED bedding, a step first time BBK owners learn the hard way when replacing rotors at 20% projected life due to not.. braking..
