To tune or not to Tune

I know the detect ability of flash vs piggy has been beaten to death in forums so i wont go there.
Looking to mod my M2c 6sp and wanted to know everyones option on current S55/drivetrain reliability. I deleted my 15 gmc diesel with the confidence that gm had all the bugs worked out and that a 60hp tune driven responsibly would expose me to little risk.
That being said i plan to track my car 3 times a year
How much risk is there with stage/map 2 tune bm3/jb4?
the new carbahn tune with warranty might be option once released for m2c
Thanks in advance

I too am looking. And waiting. For a proper tune. We live in good times right now, and it’ll likely get much better within a few months. I know for sure OFT (Open Flash Tablet) will be brought to the M2C S/55 platform soon.

Depending on how long you’ve been involved in the FI tuning scene, you may remember Shiv and Proceed Tuning for the N/54. He and Terry @ JB3 JB4 ect, had some epic tuning battles we all benefited from. The more of these super tuners the better. Just be a smart consumer and do your research. Exciting times ahead for the S/55. The Bootmod3 guys say it’s here already.

To answer your question about reliability, IMHO, the jury is still out. As always, if you decide to turn up the boost, you must be willing to suffer the consequences. The easy huge gains in power are just too tempting for many. Back in the day, to gain 10% in power and keep the same drivability, was very expensive. Carburetors, camshafts, head work ect....still didn’t garuntee success. Now that number is easy from just software alone.

F80paul is the man. Get tuned by him and look no further. The only "reliability problem" with the motor is the crank hub issue. If you really want to, you can swap to a keyed option and prevent the failure. I believe the failure is typically (like..almost exclusively) knocking timing out of place. Catastrophic is valve to piston contact and super rare.

No risk as long as you use a reputable tune and run recommended map for your mods.

Is a keyed crank hub on the under 500whp supporting mod list? lol

Just flash it with the M4CS tune...developed by BMW M for the S55

When you get used to the power your car makes, you have no choice but to tune it if you want more or else move onto another car.

Helped my friend flash BM3 on his M2C yesterday. Stage 1 93'. The car now pulls like a train, with a very linear torque feel. We can't help but wonder how the Stage 2 tune feels like.

Being completely objective, Bootmod3 is the safest, most proven direction to go. The whole platform is mind-blowing.

Seriously thinking about the Carbahn tune, with warranty. I've had Dinan parts in the past, never ran into any warranty issues with dealers.

Just saw a post where Carbahn is planning an upgraded turbo + tune package at a later date.

Inquired sounded like they wanted to wait til they had a m2c in there shop to test on before offering a warrantied tune. Not sure how long that's going to take.
So many happy bm3 customers I may just take the chance being my car is 6sp.. Money shifts aren't warrantied anyways

BootMod3 is the shiznizzle! OBD interface to unlock and tune ECU and now, with license purchase, you have access to tuning tables with "Editor" (building entire tune) if you know what you're doing, or just use an OTS (off the shelf) tune or use one of BM3's many licensed tuners for a custom tune.

I've been running BM3 Stage 2 tunes (93, E30, Race Gas) for the last 10,000+ miles and currently have 35K miles on car (2018 M2 DCT), I beat the ever living snot out of her every single day and have had zero issues

I'm currently running the CS map provided by bootmod3 and I love it.

Once I get bored of this, then I plan on doing their CS+ one. (Waiting for it to get warmer too...and stay warm)

And then finally Stage 1, but that's as far as I'm going.
