Leaving The Fold - Getting a 2018 Boxster GTS

Well this is the last week I will own the fun little M2. I found a great deal on an 18 Boxster GTS manual that I couldn't pass up. I've had a bit of a "thing" for convertible sports cars that started with the year 2 S2K I had. I had been thinking about an M4 Comp but for virtually the same $ the nicely optioned Boxster is just more of a thoroughbred sports car. I know, the flat 4 doesn't play the audible music the previous gen 6 did or even the M2. However, it does perform better with about the same power and even more torque. I drove the car already knowing how magical it handled and it was as advertised.

I'll be listing my all-weather & MP mats, Dinan Sport Tune and Vorsteiner VFF-107 wheels next week.

Nice upgrade, although I would have went with a Cayman. Enjoy.

It actually has less torque, not that you'll notice since it's lighter!

Definitely a sweet car.

Hard to go wrong with a Boxster. I had a 991 911S that was in the shop for a week, and they gave me a 981 BS as a loaner. Well, that just ruined the 911 for me, and I ended up selling that and buying a Boxster with the proper manual transmission and 6 cylinder. Of course, I'm fickle, so that's since gone and of course I now have the M2.

Congrats!! The 718 is a serious weapon, especially in GTS trim! I even like the sound for what it is.

I sold my 981 Cayman for the M2 so I definitely understand the move... That taste of Porsche spoiled me lol the M2 is a much better DD than the 981 but I will be back in a Porsche in the future. Such a tremendous driver's car.

I feel as a sports a convertible is a bit dangerous if you are driving the car to its limits. Plus I do not like the look of them. Targa top is much better and safer IMO.

Had a 991 base, 981 base & now m235i

So I went car crazy and picked up some used dream cars in the past 2 years, a 991 base, then a 981 Cayman base & now m235i.

The 991 911 was my favorite. It demanded skill, understeered then oversteered, and just felt amazing when you got it all right. I did not like the high-speed instability though, where over 100mph the rear end felt so nervous and danced all over the place. Also, loved the incredible visibility out front.

The Cayman felt the most like a race car/toy. Agile, light, and rewarding, it was also way too cramped, rode like it had granite in the suspension, and did little for me as a daily driver. It was definitely fun when pushed hard, but tiring for anything else.

The M235i is actually more fun than the Cayman, and not a huge amount less than the 991, which surprised the heck out of me. Sure, precision isnt there, nor is the amazing steering of the 911 (way better than even the Cayman, which was better than the m235i), but the torquey engine, great handling, and civility make it much more of a daily pleasure for me.

Rented an M2 for a few days and LOVED it, more so than the Cayman and m235i, less than the 911. But, it too was a bit much, loud and noisy and rough, as a daily.

The all new 992, looks to be incredible!! But forget it at that price!

Looks good. I'm not that big a fan of convertibles either, but really like them on certain cars, such as a Porsche.

+1 on all accounts, except as you know I went to the M3.

Congrats to the OP!

Nice one OP.

Can you share your Vorsteiner wheel specs and pics? Where would they be shipping from?

Cheers

Congrats on the Porsche! Hope you enjoy the heck out of it!

And I must say, it's so refreshing not to see anyone crucifying you for your decision (unlike my goodbye post on the Corvette forum when I traded my Vette in for the M2).
