5 series vs. New X5

I just bought a 530e this summer and loved it so much. However, with the new X5 just came out, I feel like the 5 series is little outdated... I used to think 5 series is higher than X5, but seems like this is going to change now. Would you choose a G30 or the new X5?

Never thought that the 5 series was higher in tier than the X5. They've been equivalent in the BMW numeric range and comfort features - it's just one's a sedan/wagon versus SUV.

Why choose a G30 or new X5?

X5, for versatility, easy and accessible cargo space. I go on a lot of road trips with friends in addition to having two English bulldogs. When I'm not road tripping, the cargo space is usually filled with medium packing cases and luggage for international travel. The X5, just makes sense for my personal lifestyle.

I've owned all 3 generations of X5 and before that I had two 5 series, E39 530i and 540iT M sport wagon. Now looking forward to the 4th generation. If the new G31 5 series wagon was available in the USA, it would be a tougher choice though would lean X5 given it has the latest technologies.

I have both and always thought the car was a little above the X in the way you’re talking about. I always got a lot more comments about the car.

Glad that someone else is posing the same debate. I had been dead set on the G30 until my fiancé said “what about an SUV?” After seeing all the new tech that the G05 will have, it’s complicated my decision lol. Going to the dealer to look at and test drive both this weekend, hopefully that will help my decision making process!

Garage List
Outside the USA x5 is clearly looked at as a step above given the existence of 520i/d (which is a decent car and sells probably in quantities greater than all other 5 series of the world combined. On the other hand x5 25d is only saved for the most expensive of markets (like 300pc tax). Which is why x5 costs 50 to 75pc more in most places.

Another point is x5 and most suvs hold value much bette than sedans.
