Need help, about to change my order

So I've got a Nov build date and 5AU is on my order. The dealer is telling me that I can't get the 5AU with ACC stop and go until December. I thought it was just the pro and the extended traffic jam assist that you had to wait until December? I'll lose my leather credit if I wait till December.

Per the most recent ordering guide, the only difference is that the 12/18 package has extended traffic jam assistant for limited access highways. If you look at the other features they are identical, including the presence of ACC w/Stop & Go so if you are just going by the documentation, he's not correct.

ZDB - Driving Assistance PLUS (which includes 5AU) has EOP date of 11/18.

ZDY - Driving Assistance PRO (which includes 5AU & 5AR) has a SOP date of 12/18.

If you don't want/need 5AR (Extended Traffic Jam Assistant), then take the leather credit and the Nov build.

I’m in the same boat and still debating. I have not been able to get a definitive answer even from my dealer if this “5AR” is just software, or also some hardware component. If it includes extra hardware that will be necessary for something in the future, I’d rather wait.

So the ZDB is listed and so is the 5AU, but there is no drop down box showing all the items listed in the 5AU, specifically the ACC stop and go. I'm also curious about the NFC key card and BMW connected app feature, it's supposed to be included with comfort access, but doesn't specifically list the NFC with the comfort access on the build sheet. My CA is emailing the regional rep to get a definitive answer. Thanks guys for your fast responses! I'll post the answer back here when I find out.

ACC w/Stop & Go is part of 5AU. So you get that regardless of whether you wait for ZDY or get ZDB now. The only difference between the 2 is 5AR.

If you get Comfort Access you will be able to use the BMW Connected app to remotely start the car, etc regardless of the build date. The trainer told me that the NFC hardware should be in place on pre-12/18 builds and the NFC key should be able to be requested via your dealer if it doesn't ship with your earlier build X5. I would be interested to know what the regional rep says as well!

Since ours is a Week 41 build, I would like to get the NFC card if possible later on.

Thanks for reaching out. So far I’m leaning towards NOT taking my earlier build slot and staying with Dec. I can do without 5AR if indeed just software (although no one upchain I’ve spoken too thus far has any clue), but now earlier builds may be withought NFC. I guess these are the growing pains of being an early adopter...but what next?

He's working on finding out about NFC. I'll report when he gets an answer. I don't want to lose the leather and gesture credit on a Dec build. That makes about a $2k price increase on my build.

There is zero confirmation from any upline reliable source that 5AR is related to *hardware*. Hard to make a decision when not even BMW can tell us.

I agree, plus there's no guarantee we'll even have autonomous driving in the next 2-3 yrs and I trade every 3-4 yrs.

Could you advise what 5AR functionality includes? Thank you. I have a 2019 x5 on order.

It greatly extends the amount of time (from 45 sec to unlimited) you can take your hands off the wheel while in slower traffic on major freeways in the US. It has no effect on city driving, rural roads, etc. At least that is my take on it.

That is why some believe it is just a coding change and not hardware based.

Thank you! Are there any downsides to Extended Traffic Jamb Assistance? I read somewhere that the system has a camera trained on your eyes to make sure you are perhaps continually looking at the road.

There is a camera/sensor mounted at the top of the instrument cluster/panel. I'm pretty sure that is probably required by law so the car can deactivate the automated driving features and alert them if someone isn't paying attention or somehow falls asleep!

That camera will be on all X5s with the Driving Assistance packages...both the Plus available now and the Pro in December will have it. That is why many are thinking the change in December to Pro is just a software/coding change...not hardware.

You can see the camera/sensor below.

If you go to the Build Your Own x5 section on BMWUSA.com and click on the Packages tab and then click on More Details below the Driving Assistance Plus Package, you will see that Driving Assistance Plus includes Active Driving Assistant Pro.
