BMW digital key vs. BMW keycard? Not available until Dec?

I’ve read the blog post below, but what is actually the difference from a practical use perspective. Also the key card won’t be available until later build dates....I’m feeling waiting til Dec builds might be better and better?

I believe in one of the other posts it said that the November onwards built X5s will have those available to them. The December ones will come with the keycard and the November builds will be able to request it. If memory serves, I think I read that October builds will not have access to these keycards. I’m going by memory so please don’t quote me but I’m sure if you search the forum it’ll come up with the post I mentioned.

I hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply! Yes I thought I read but couldn’t find that post again.

I just spoke with my dealer rep and he says their order guide has none of this information about ANY KEYCARD. Seems like we know more than them. Getting frustrated by that.
Also, seems to state in my readings this is a NFC enabled chip....does that mean it’s only for Android? I’m not sure if the IPhone allows for use of the NFC for this purpose.

iOS 12 allows developers to use the NFC chip. Will be up to BMW to update their app.

I've seen the video, what I wanted to know was whether or not he got one and if it's the same. Either way I appreciate it

By menu, you mean the part about pairing the digital key?

The official videos stipulate a registration process that is required to activate the key. See this video:

I think you need to enable the feature in iDrive even if the card is paired.

My key card was not active. Had to go to car- settings- doors/access- BMW digital key - add new key. Put key card in charge tray to activate. Now it works to start car, locks and unlocks car.

I've been able to "activate" my keycard (iDrive, wireless tray, etc.) but it still does not work. No opening or starting the car.

Try putting in charge tray to start car first. I tested mine on doors first and didn't work put in tray and was able to start car. To lock car key card had to be vertical in front and in middle of door handle for it to work.
